Joan of Arc

Joan Of Arc – Madonna –  A melodic highlight of her new album, a heartbreak song with a weak metaphor (“I’m not Joan of Arc, not yet) which doesn’t seem to quite make sense after all but yet the bridge is so catchy the song should hit big any way – A-

Madonna – Drake – Brooding number and no he isn’t referencing that Madonna or is he? The definition of sick – A-

I Follow Rivers – Jason Isbell and Amanda Shire – Ugh – C-

Legend – Drake – Another fine song from the newbie, with a smart line “if I die, I’m a legend” – A

Nature Of The Beast – Trent Dabbs – It isn’t unpleasant as such but this sort of Americana makes my teeth ache – B-

Ready – Kodaline – back when I was a whippersnapper –or rather mid-30s, we used to have a name for stuff like this: Britpop, now it’s Britrock – B+

Mutineer – Jason Isbell And Amanda Shire – The voices should fly forward on this or at least tread water but they do neither – C

O.P.P. – Naughty By Nature – This has really thrived, the highlight of Thursday Snoop and D gig, but then you know me – A

You Make Me feel Brand New – The Stylistics – There is something weirdly insincere about the strigs which makes the songs even more wrought with emotion – A

Last Kind Words – Rhiannon Giddens – She sounds like a in the heat of passion play testifying – B+
