I don’t know what 2012 will bring, but there are a few albums that I am looking forward to listening to with great anticipation:

– Sharon Van Etten – ‘Tramp’: If ‘Serpents’ was a preview of what we can expect, the album should be very good, intense with that sort of danger and fragility that transpire from her interesting voice. ‘Tramp’ should be out on February 7th via Jagjagu war.

– Sleigh Bells– ‘Reign of Terror’: I would have never really discovered them if I hadn’t seen them live, this noisy duo can sure do some damage with a fresh and unique ear-crushing sound. We’ll see if they can repeat it with that next number. They have just announced some tour dates and ‘Reign of Terror’ will be released on February 21st via Mom+Pop Music.

-Ceremony – ‘Zoo’: I just wrote about the single ‘Hysteria’, a true power-house and an indication of a change in their sound,… but they should nevertheless maintain their abrasive sonic level.‘Zoo’ will be out on March 6th via Matador.

-The Shins –‘Port of Morrow’: Let’s forget about Broken Bells, the Shins are back this year after a long absence! ‘Simple Song’ was just unveiled, and if this is any indication of the albums mood, Mercer’s songwriting will shine with a more-than-ever triumphant outfit. I don’t know, may be the rest will be totally depressing. The album will be out on March 20th via Aural Apothecary and Columbia Records.

Cat Power –TBA: 2012 is the year of many comebacks, since Chan Marshall had not released anything for years too. I love her voice, she could sing anything, I’d just melt and listen. She said on her Facebook page that the album was almost finished, but we have no date and no name yet, don't worry this should come soon.

Fiona Apple – TBA: What did I just say? Another big comeback! But is it for real? She is performing again, did some super-intimate shows at Largo recently, but did not sing any new song when I saw her, it was almost all cover songs! But during one of these Largo shows, she joked when she could not remember her new songs, saying ‘they’ve been done for a fucking year’. We want Fiona back!

Queens of the Stone Age – TBA: It will be their 6th album, and the first one in nearly 5 years, but there is no info about this future Josh Homme’s creation. It does not matter, even if it comes completely from the same badass vein of loud desert rock’n’roll than ‘Era Vulgaris’, it will certainly be all right.

Of course, tons of other albums will come out during 2012,these are just my highlights.
