Another Meh Governors Ball Line Up
Forget the rotten early June dates, which prove disastrous every other year, and simply riddle me this: where are the headliners for the June 2nd to June 4th New York music festival, and riddle me this: where is the headliner?
Tool – They are a big time metal band, sure, but not their big. Maybe one night at MSG and then what?
Phoenix – Their last album stiffed and they couldn’t sell out MSG three years ago, what’s the chance of them doing it here?
Chance The Rapper – Last year he set the table for Kanye at The Meadows and while he was, admittedly, great, that’s where he belongs at this precise moment.
Yet again, Coacehlla has Beyonce and Radiohead (and Kendrick) as their top of the bill -certainly Beyonce is the biggest star in the world today. Do Governors Ball think there is anything at all to compare on this line up. Jay Z might do it, sure the Stones or Macca or Bieber, but nothing on this line up is that degree of heat.
The secondary line up: Lorde, Wu, the Avalanchers, ain’t bad but it ain’t great. It will do the job. Plus, nice to see our old pal Saint Motel make the event, Courtney Barnes is back… yeah, it is a fun way to kill a day, but there is a lack of something yet again.
Last year was the worst GB ever, let’s see what happens in 2017
