Beyonce Boosts Red Lobster’s Sales
This is what I call power… a line in a Beyonce song is apparently enough to boost your sales by 33%… at least this is what just happened! Beyonce’s new song ‘Formation’ has the provocative and cheap line, ‘When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay,’ and since she performed it at the Super Bowl and released a highly-commented video, the famous seafood chain saw a big spike in sales. Apparently, everyone was having a Super Bowl party at Red Lobster on Sunday.
33% is highly significant, and according to CNN, Red Lobster spokesperson Erica Ettori said ‘the brand was mentioned on Twitter 42,000 times in a single hour and trended for the first time in history.’
This story proves two things. First, Beyonce has the Midas touch, no doubt about this, everything she touches transforms into gold, especially if you add some sexual implication, and brands probably line up at her door to get an endorsement. Then people are really, really stupid, at least Bey’s fans. Red Lobster was founded in 1968, but people waited that long to make it cool and trending? Which proves, one more time that people are sheep who blindly follow any kind of celebrity endorsement, peculiarly if it is connected with bad food.
What a sad commentary on our culture! What’s next? Burger King will be renamed Burger Queen after a line about the double whopper? ‘I thought a “Red Lobster” is what you get when you have too much sex with Beyonce,’ commented someone… But when you think how inventive and unpredictable urban language can be, who knows what a Red Lobster really is in that song, may be Beyonce wasn’t talking about the seafood restaurant at all.
