‘Hunger Games’, a young adult novel by Suzanne Collins, will see its cinematographic adaptation next year, and the soundtrack is promising to be quite interesting: Taylor Swift, The Decembrists and Arcade Fire are reported to have collaborated with music producer T. Bone Burnett on a companion album for the movie.

According to what I've read, the movie, produced by Lionsgate, and which will star Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, looks like an extreme take on reality TV shows: in the future, a central city called the Capital where the government holds power, ‘chooses one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of 12 districts for a massive televised battle in which only one person can survive’.

It looks gruesome! According to the Hollywood Reporter, Taylor Swift worked with the Civil Wars and Burnett to write and perform the song ‘Safe and Sound’ and Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Regine Chassagne also wrote a song with Burnett entitled ‘Horn Of Plenty’, whereas The Decemberists wrote ‘One Engine’. Other sources are saying that Arcade Fire are even doing several songs for the soundtrack, including the theme song.

Actually, Taylor Swift’s song has already been released on iTunes, and for the few seconds I have heard (iTunes preview) it sounds like a very sweet folkish thing for teenager movies.
