Cat Power (last year at the Greek theater)

Since she is a relatively rare performer and one of my favorite singers, any news about Cat Power is always heartwarming. If you like her as I do, you should rejoice for two reasons: Cat Power has announced a new album, ‘Wanderer’, supported by an upcoming tour in the US and Europe.

She has also shared a short teaser of the title track, which sounds like a stripped down religious and catchy hymn, haunted by her inimitable smoky voice, while the video follows a peaceful Chan walking in beautiful and desert wilderness. It sounds like a promising sonic communion with nature and a rebirth for Chan, whose last album, ‘Sun’ was released already 6 years ago! but Chan has always taken her time, plus she gave birth to a baby son about 3 years ago!

The surprise is that 11-song long album includes a very anticipated track, ‘Woman’, featuring superstar Lana Del Rey.

This is what the always humble Chan Marshall had to say about the album she recorded in Miami and Los Angeles: ‘The course my life has taken in this journey — going from town to town, with my guitar, telling my tale; with reverence to the people who did this generations before me. Folk singers, blues singers, and everything in between. They were all wanderers, and I am lucky to be among them.’

Here is the tracklist of ‘Wanderer’

01 “Wanderer”
02 “In Your Face”
03 “You Get”
04 “Woman” (Feat. Lana Del Rey)
05 “Horizon”
06 “Stay”
07 “Black”
08 “Robbin Hood”
09 “Nothing Really Matters”
10 “Me Voy”
