I got punched in the gut with nostalgia when I heard that Circa Survive was playing Uproar this year. I was looking forward to it and heavily anticipated seeing the band that pushed me to like harder music as a middle schooler. I’d never seen them live before, so, I was giddy with excitement.
My first thought when the band stepped on? Anthony Green is a god. His power and energy that rushed through the mic wires to allow us to hear him sing the lyrics I’m sure a lot of us there were dying to hear. He’s done so much in his career and Circa’s been a band for like, ten years now, and he was still so humble and kept thanking us.
Being the first band on the main stage, I didn’t think that a lot of people were expecting too much from this band, that is, if they hadn’t heard them before. I noticed a lot of the audience seemed pleasantly surprised, and a few songs in, people started a pit. I was captivated by the deep, throbbing bass and its intricate relationship with the powerful drums. On top of this was the concise rhythm guitar, along with the fun riffs of the main guitar. Anthony Green was the icing on the cake, with the dynamic highs and lows of his beautiful voice and brilliant lyrics than ran through my psyche and tugged at heart strings. All in all, they played a lovely set that tickled the fancy of both old and new fans, playing a little bit of everything.
Circa Survive was quite a way to open up the main stage.
