Christmas Days – Armin van Buueren – A real moldy dog of an Xmas ballad … just be quiet – MUST TO AVOID – D+

Plain Jane REMIX – A$AP Ferg, Nicki Minaj – What gives with Nicki Minaj? Is she the best female rapper, or simply the best rapper, period. Sure, 2017 is not 1993, rapping as an art form isn’t what it was, but I don’t see or imagine there could ever been a time she wouldn’t be in the list of bests… Ferg drags me – B

Miracle Man – AWOL – Agit proppers come up with the goods on this hard rocker hookcentric masterwork like speedy punky late 70s UK track –  A-

I Don’t Want You Back – Borns – Sure he’s cute, cute and boring as hell – C+

Beach Life-In-Death – Car seat Headrest – 13 minutes of clang rock greatness, finally a great follow up to a promising beginning – B+

Belong – Cash Cash, Dashboard Confessional – Indie emo EDM, fine with me – B

With My Team Remix – Creek Boyz, Lil Yachty – A touch too much autotune on the vocals, but otherwise this is catchy r&b – B

Big Ole Boy – Dej Loaf – Of all the modern r&b slow jamz and wild time women, Dej is my favorite. This is another winner – B+

Servings And Portions From My Boarding House – Jack White – Sound bytes where a song should be – C

Burden Down – Jennifer Hudson – Sure, she can sing. I never said she couldn’t. But she ululates so earnestly on this crap you wonder why she bothers – C

Faded – Kim Petras, lil aaron – “I’m faded out my mind, faded every night,” the German chanteuse laments on this bubblegum song, but not pink bubblegum, gray bubblegum – B

Last To Leave – Louis The Child, Caroline Ailin – from Chicago, this years Chainsmokers and just as deft with a hook but not a melody – B-

Night Shift – Lucy Dacus – Well buzzed about singer songwriter, is a slow and boring singer songwriter, you know the type right? The Angel Olsen’s of the world for co-eds in the midst of a character diaspora – C+

Like A Motherless Child – Moby – He has learnt nothing in the past twenty years, now, has he? – C+

Bum Bum Tam Tam – MC Fioti, Future, J Balvin – That’s some hook Fioti has invented here, Future adds a verse and is gone – B

When You Die – MGMT – One of the worst major live bands I’ve ever seen, this is a terrible indie rock EDM travesty – C-

Honey Hold Me – Morningsiders – Stop, please, I can not listen to the awful twinkly sub-folk clunker – D+

Muevolo Loca Boom Boom – Pitbull – After getting blown off stage by Enrique Iglesias last summer, Pitbull’s stocks have been way down, this is a good salsa dance track and pushes him back up a little – B

rockstar remix – Post Malone, Nicky Jam, Ozuna – Ozuna is behind that godawful new song with Cardi B and Nicky is a PR legend, and between them they make Post Malone almost bearable – B

Fake ID – Riton, Kah-Lo – The terrific Nigerian rapper Kah-Lo’s second collaboration with Newcastle DJ Riton is better than the first, and the first, “Rinse & Repeat” is sooooo good. “Fake ID” continues Kah-Lo’s cool nursery rhyme delivery and way with words – SINGLE OF THE WEEK – A

God Rest You Merry Gentlemen – Riverdale Cast – Emo carol meets emo Archie – C

There Are many ways To Say I Love You – Sylvan Esso – Club goes American songbookish – C+

The Weekend Fuk Wav Remix – SZA, Calvin Harris -Perhaps the most irritating singer in the world today, though Harris makes her mo lively than usual – C+

Ben Franklin’s Song – The Decemberist – How much longer is Miranda gonna flog the American revolution? – B

Stuck With Me – The Neighbourhood – EDM soft rock – C

Grab The Wheel – Timbaland, 6lack – 6lack sucked opening for The Weeknd earlier this year, Timbaland has had trouble growing up, this has a terrific hook but everything else is lame – C+

Only – Wafia – OK, enough women of color singing over slow jams about love and sex, it’s like living in a reality show – C+

Hood Go Bang (Remix) – Wu Tang Clan – Poppier than usual – B

Boss Life – YFN Lucci, Offset – Offset composes the biggest hooks in hip hop… not  here, elsewhere – C
