Crazy (feat. PnB Rock) – 50 Cent – Fresh off a guest appearance with Eminem at Coachella, Fitty has a dour and hard rap over an excellent backing track -the chorus stings like a bee – B

2 Souls on Fire (feat. Quavo) – Bebe Rexha – Quavo is a good singer, he doesn’t even overuse autotune, and Bebe handles the hook with style… a good r&b track – B

Money Fi Run – Beenie Man – The dance hall great has been releasing the best songs this  year, this is another masterclass in toasting and his verbal gymnastics would be the envy of any rapper anywhere  – A-

Ganja Call (Feat I-Atom) – Capleton – This is the wrong way for US consumption, it is I-Atom’s rhythm which she shared with Capleton. It made her a star in Jamaica, and if she has many more like this ode to the medicinal value of weed, it might do the same here – B+

Cry Pretty – Carrie Underwood – Hi powered MOR ballad and worse – C-

Miracle – CHVRCHES – You know what would be a miracle? This band getting better than a C grade – C

Somebody’s Been Drinkin’ – Cole Swindell – A sucky no song there country – C-

The Mountain – Dierks Bentley – I am tired of giving him the benefit of the doubt because he blew Brad Paisley off stage ten years ago. This sucks – C-

Sky Full Of Song – Florence + The Machine – Remember when she was cool, around the time of “Shake It Out”? Now she is a hausfrau hippie with great lungs and bad songs – C-

1942 – G-Eazy, Yo Gotti, YBN Nahmir – This is one of G-Eazy’s better efforts, the  guy is much better the further away he goes from pop – B-

Pynk – Janelle Monae, Grimes – More Grimes than Monae, the chorus is a goodie but the verses are too twee – B-

Talia – King Princess – Signed to Mark Ronson’s label, this is mainstream pop by a queer identifying superstar prospective – B-

Eskeeetit – Lil Pump –  Which mean’s “let’s get it” on this Gucci rewarded piece of self serving raps over beats. I love it myself, but the hook should be stronger – B

Barbie Tingz – Nicki Minaj – A real banger and a major dis track (and after Migos cut her verse from “Motor Sports” at Coachella they deserve it. Her first new material since February 2017 is as good as anything out their, better, a full beam slam down – SINGLE OF THE WEEK – A-

Chun Li – Nicki Minaj -“Bentley tints on, Fendi prints on,” -love that rhyme and glad she hasn’t sold the Bentley on this attack as defense song named after the first female character in the video game series Street Fighter. The second of two full tilt bangers – B+

Pull Up (featuring Joey Bada$$, A$AP Ferg)  – Powers  Pleasant – Co-founder of Pro Era, should do well in the clubs – B-

Sexo – Residente, Dillon Francis, iLe – Residente is a member of the excellent rap group Calle 13 and this solo effort, featuring a terrific iLe, is catchy as hell, iLe’s chorus makes the track – B+

Stay Woke (feat Ashley Sorrell) – Royce da 5’9″ – Wow, this is pretty tough self portrait, and not “just Invest in the truth, don’t expect me to buy into moments” but the dopest, the wokest” and more to the point for the five years sober rapper, but more importantly “Trauma from my childhood, constantly haunts me ’til I finally cry tears over…” That’s pretty wokest indeed – B+

Since I Was Broke – Russ – Atlanta rapper sing speaks over a clever piano lick – B-

Bright Life (Kalie Koivesto Remix) – Sam Huber – A terrific EDM take with a house beat all the way through it – B+

Bigger – Sugarland – Of those girl boy harmony country bands, but Jennifer Nettles and superior material like this crisp country mid-tempo beauty keeps them ahead of the Little Big Towns of the world – B+

September – Taylor Swift – recorded at the Spotify studios, Taylor takes out the horns and performs it on guitar and it sounds like a Taylor Swift and not an Earth, Wind, And Fire track – A-

Delicate – Taylor Swift – No surprises here, it more than lends itself to an acoustic take -A-

Let Me – Zayn – After a busy coupla years this is a return to Zayn’s late period 1D mode without the harmonies, nice one AGAIN – B+
