Beast Mode – A Boogie With A Hood, PNB Rock, Youngboy Never Broke Again – Drake protégée, there are three artists influencing Emo Rap, Kanye circa 808s, Drake, and Kid Cudi. This is a near perfect form of modern emo – B+

My Own Hymn – Above & Beyond, Zoe Johnston – Trance as a slow bore, a disappointment – C

No Limits – Angel Haze – One of the top rappers around, and by rapper I mean people who rap, a self help manual ripped and shredded – B+

Up All Night – Beck – Sounds like circa Odelay but a touch more tech-y – B

Quintessence – Benjamin Clementine – Beautiful, piano based quasi-classical song by the always always always great man. The lyric, about the essence of violence, is first class: “whereas I was born with a spoon in me mouth others are nurtured with a bullet in their hands.” – SINGLE OF THE WEEK – A-

I’ll Name The Dogs – Blake Shelton – Not unpleasant country sweet nothing wedding proposal – B

Some Sweet day – Brian Wilson – Written with Andy Paley – who worked with Brian on two of his lesser solo albums , it is a nothing much unreleased track from the 90s. There will be better stuff in the box set – C+

Rest – Charlotte Gainsbourg –In French, with Charlotte whispering a pretty song, deep in a melancholic mood – B+

Semi – Chief Keep – A long way from “I Don’t Like” though the way he chants raps comes from the same place – B

The Real Ron – David Zowie – DJ guy remixes “Going To Cali” and how can he go wrong? – B

You Don’t Do It For me Anymore – Demi Lovato – Some lungs on her, and this makes two out of three goodies on the new one – B

Mood – dvsn – I once saw this duo perform the most boring set in existence. Daniel Daley’s falsetto sells this r&b track pretty well – C+

Come Together – Gary Clark Jr. – For some TV show, abysmal – MUST TO AVOID – D

No Limit – G-Easy, A$AP Rocky, Cardi B – Cardi only gets one verse but is all money, G-Easy and Rocky are right on top of their game, and this is a top pop track. I am usually wrong but it sure sounds like a hit to me – A-

Let Me Go – Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line – Kitchen sink EDM pop plus country band who don’t sound country – D+

LOVE – ILOVEMAKONNEM, Rae Sremmurd – very catchy emo rap without the rap… – B+

On The Regular – Julia Lewis – DJ by any other name – C

Found You – Kane Brown – Country nothing – C-

Love So Soft – Kelly Clarkson – After spending so much capital on maintaining her integrity, here she is the same ol’ tech pop  with slightly better vocals – C+

Birthday – K. Michelle – Nice slow burner – B-

Fear Not – Kristene Dimarco – because of Jesus, though it might sell to Rachel Platten fans – C

Here – Ledisi – Pleasant enough soul ballad – B-

Goofy – Lil Durk, Future, Jeezy – Sounds like Gucci – B

Willin’ – Mandy Moore – Terrific cover of an old Little Feat song – A-

WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE – Marilyn Manson – Industrial strength shock and awe from Lil Uzi’s biggest influence – B-

Shockandawe – Miguel – Huh? Miguel goes hip hop, I miss the valley – C+

Strength In Numbers – Prophets Of rage – terrific on stage, not nearly enough muscle on record – B-

Too Good At Goodbyes – Sam Smith – More of the same, only worse, worse than “Stay With Me,” which most things are, and worse than “Latch,” which also figues, but worse than “Writing On The Wall” and that just ain’t on – B

Los Ageless – St. Vincent – The New York one is better – C+

Vacation Town – The Front Bottoms – Brian Sella is the Snoop of indie, his voice is so distinctive everything sounds like the song before it and “Twin Size Mattress” is their “Gin ‘N’ Juice” – C+

I’m In Trouble – Live At Maxwell’s – The Replacement – Terrific rocker, great hook – A-

Disco Tits – Tove Lo – Song title of the week, not bad Tove Lo-y new girl pop – B-

Bring It On Home To Me – Van Morrison – Age has made it more soulful and sadder – B+

Goin’ To Chicago – Van Morrison – Love that harp, man. Who is doing the vocal… without looking my bet is Georgie Fame – B+

Rock Paper Scissors – Waka Waka Flame, DJ Whooo Kid, The Runners, Turn Godz –I wouldn’t call Cheech and Chong my least favorite rapper because… no wait… though honestly, this is house rap with a nice hook – B-

Homie – Young Thug, Carnage, Meek Mill – Old school gangsta rap – C+

Dusk Till Dawn – Zayn, Sia – Two great singers, one crap song – C+
