Hanni El Khatib Shares New Visualizer For His Album ‘Savage Times’
Whatever the platform you choose, iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp…., there is even another way to listen to the full album since yesterday: A new visualizer on Youtube, an hour-long video playing the entire album with darkly psychedelic and distorted images to go with Hanni El Khatib’s eclectic collection of bluesy garage rock, rap-infused dance disco and beyond.
In 2016, Hanni released 5 EPs, a very prolific effort culminating with Savage Times, an LP featuring no less than 19 tracks as diverse as the liberating punk rock bullet ‘Baby’s Ok’, or the sweaty dance-floor ‘Paralyzed’, or the fear-fueled raging ‘Born Brown’. In an hour, you have a full trip into Hanni’s personal experience, from his childhood in America as the son of a Palestinian father and a Filipino mother (‘Born Brown’) to the violent attack at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris that affected his whole recording of ‘Savage Times’.
Hanni was effectively booked to headline a Paris show ‘with a special one-shot supergroup including drummer Alex Sowinski of BadBadNotGood, bassist Jonny Bell of Crystal Antlers and Dam-Funk collaborator and solo synthesizer wizard Computer Jay’, but this got obviously canceled due but the terrorist attack. A new state of mind inspired him to write, record, repeat, and what was initially not intended to be an album but just a series of singles, eventually became one, and a truly excellent one. We are only in March, but I would not be surprised if the album would make a few best of lists at the end of the year.
Recently, ‘Savage Times’ was even featured on Elton John’s Beats 1 show, ‘When I first heard Head In The Dirt I listened to it from start to finish,’ said the rock legend in an interview, ‘and that was the first time I listened to an album from start to finish since Marshall Mathers by Eminem. I was rocking out in the car and going, ‘Oh my god this guy is the best.’ I want you to know that your music inspires me.’
How could you resist when the Rocket Man himself gives such an approval? You should not resit , stream ‘Savage Times’ below with this new visual, and you will probably rewind the video a few times.
