Iggy Pop Will Headline Desert Daze Festival On October 12th-15th
If you were still hesitating about attending Desert Daze, the music festival held in Joshua Tree October 12-15th, you have another excellent reason to go, the name Iggy Pop has just been added to the already very impressive line up.
Other notable and recent additions are Sleep, the stoner metal band, which will be performing their album ‘Holy Mountain’ in full, the amazing and always busy Ty Segall, as well as BADBADNOTGOOD, the Gories and Cigarettes After Sex!
At this point, the festival is growing to amazing proportions, I was already going because of Spiritualized, Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore, John Cale, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Panda Bear, Hope Sandoval, Eagles of Death Metal and many others such as Ariel Pink, Deap Vally, Mr. Elevator, Death Valley Girls, JJUUJJUU, Frankie & the Witch Fingers, Prettiest Eyes and Starcrawler (to only name the bands I am familiar with)… but this new lineup and the addition of Iggy Pop as the headliner, certainly puts the festival in a new category, and this, just 6 years after its creation.
It will be the festival second year in one of the most unique venues on the planet: The Institute of Mentalphysics in Joshua Tree, which was designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his son, and founded by Ding Le Mei, a westerner turned Tibetan Monk.
The festival has also announced opening Ceremonies on Friday 13th, that will be conducted by ‘the man, the myth, the supernatural rock n roll strategist, Ian Svenonious of The Make-Up and Chain and the Gang’.
Mystic Bazaar will run a daily schedule of ‘metaphysical workshops’ with performances by Miranda Lee Richards, Entrance, Big Search, Imaad Wasif, throat singer Li Daiguo, while Cristopher Cichocki-Circular Dimensions will evolve all weekend in Sanctuary Hall with Special Guests.
On Thursday 12th, early campers and guests will be able to enjoy DJ sets from John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees and special guests, while Prescott McCarthy, Meika May Ginsburg, Non Plus Ultra, Oliver Hibert, Spencer Hibert, Dave Archer, Christopher Bettig, Dave Archer, Celeste Byers, Aaron Glasson, Moon Magnet, Future Eyes, Brad Hansen, Beck + Col will provide the background of the festival by filling the landscape with beautiful new art installations.
Danny Perez, Mustachio Light Show, Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show, Billgazer, The Blindspot Project, and Cloaking will provide projections for the three outdoor stages, and, if all this was not enough to occupy your extended weekend, sonic performances will run alongside panel speakers and daily film screenings!
This promises to be a very unique experience, a surrealist desert trip, unlike any other music festival that exists.
GA Weekend Passes, VIP, Super Duper VIP, Camping and payment plans are available now at Desert Daze. Daily Lineups and Single Day Tickets will be available later this month.
