Into The Groovy: Top New Album Tracks 2-16-18 – 2-22-18
Already Gone – Brett Dennen – A great beat lifts this singer songwriter tropes to new height of funness, One of those songs where you think you’ve heard it before when in fact you haven’t, Dennen has a few of them, this had me considering Dave Edmunds
Every Time I Hear That Song – Brandi Carlile – I have been on the fence though I respect her for coming out in a world where the Chely Wrights of the world were driven to contemplate suicide, still Brandi is too much of a bummer for my tastes. So is this song, but it is very strong so I’ll have to reconsider.
Sober To Death –Car Seat Headrest – I can’t remember the original version at all, this is mid-tempo downer leading to and away from “every conversation ends with you screaming” before a tremendous guitar break.
Stranger Stranger – Fischerspooner – The conclusion has been that it wasn’t worth the wait, but I liked the Michael Stipe produced art rock album especially this atmospheric groovy fucker.
When Vultures Cry – Kodak Black – I nearly made Kodak’s Valentine’s Day mixtape my album of the week, I could have easily. This is a great rap track of crucified post-teen confusion.
Young Nigga (feat Puff Daddy) – Nipsy Hussle – The album is very good and this has a hi hat beat that is quite additive.
Another Age – Robert Earl Thomas – Haunting vocal on a melodic downer
The Boy – Shannon And The Clams – Mad about the clingy ringing proto-reggae guitar on this 60s style song.
Mango – The Orielles – Nice harmony Best Coast-y pop move, some of that faded sun mode.
Figure This Out – The Wrecks – Sounds like teenage angst but with better performance than teens usually manage.
Temperature – Tyga – Sure he is a pig but this is a smart sex jam.
Poem – U.S. Girls – Starts like Brian Eno, ends like Angel Olsen.
