Sports: The Jets are 2 -2, the Patriots are 2 -2, the Giants are 0 – 4, the answer to the question as to why do teams play the game, in Herman Edwards great words: to see who wins. The Jets overtime was as thrilling as these games get.

More sports: MLB enters the postseason with the Yanks, who were TWO GAMES away from winning the division, and now stuck with the wild card. The problem with the winner take all wild card is that if your pitcher has a bad game you can be in a 0 – 5 hole before the game is in the second inning and unable to dig yourself out. The Yanks are better than the Twins (though not better than the Indians). Such a pity, at least we could have had a Sox Vs Yanks one off for the division but it was not to be.

Old Music: Another late period Presley, one of McCartney’s lesser solo efforts, and Frank Sinatra’s debut album (and the first 33 1/3 ever).

New Music: Except for Smokepurpp and maybe Torres, a bit of a laid back week of releases.

Concerts: Last week (Chance The Rapper, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, and Marilyn Manson nearly killing himself) was nonstop and this week is pretty busy as well, I dropped the National just because I don’t have the energy, and was left with: Best Coast, Paramour, Noah Cyrus, Laura Marling, Tedeschi Trucks Band, the Wonder Years and Tomas Doncker leading me through my 61st birthday.

Shooting In Vegas: 20 dead as a gunman goes on a shooting rampage at an outdoor concert by Jason Aldean at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Second shooting this year at the Vegas strip.

Worst President Ever: Trump tweeted that negotiations with North Korea are a waste of time, perhaps the single most repulsive comment this terrible man has ever made. Till the last breath a President takes, he should be negotiating a peaceful end to a nuclear showdown.

Death: “S.I. Newhouse Jr., Who Turned Condé Nast Into a Magazine Powerhouse, Dies at 89,” following on the heels of Hugh Hefner’s death. The inevitable decay and death of all continues without respite. Even Monty “this horse is a nag” Hall can’t deal his way out of this one.

Television: SNL season opener was so not funny, so so so not funny. Why do I watch it? The Megyn Kelly show works well to her every weakness.

The Charts: The class of 2014 have fallen apart three years later, Katy Perry tried to change and it backfired, Sam SMith tried to do more of the same and came off lukewarm, and who knows what Taylor Swift thought she was doing but she wasn’t.

Nobel Prize In Medicine: “Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine on Monday for their discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm. The three United States-born scientists used fruit flies to isolate a gene that controls the rhythm of a living organism’s daily life. Mr. Hall, Mr. Rosbash and Mr. Young were “able to peek inside our biological clock,” helping make discoveries that “explain how plants, animals and humans adapt their biological rhythm so that it is synchronized with the Earth’s revolutions,” the Nobel prize committee said.”
