Jam Today: October 16th, 2017
Concerts: Tedeschi Trucks Band concerts have become one of the worst experiences around and it has nothing to do with the music. On Saturday night at the Beacon, the band was on fire and especially Susan who was having a great night: “Part Of Me” followed by “Midnight In Harlem” was so spectacular, TTB became nothing more or less than a soul band. But the audience were such a bunch of morons, I was chased out by intermission. I went to see Ski Mask The Slum Lord a coupla months, part of the whole Soundcloud Rap teen tearing it to pieces movement, and they were better behaved then the overwhelming horrible middle aged, middle class, white men who polluted the audience. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
More Concerts: Tidal X on Tuesday, and Brand New on Thursday. I am specifically excited over Brand New, who own the best rock album of the year. If I could
#MeToo: As my friend Jahn Xavier suggests, maybe this is a time for men to shut up and listen. However, being a man, I am sure the numbers are more or less unanimous: much like masturbation, all men do it… On a personal level, I sincerely doubt my relationship with women (at the very least I adhered to the concept that liquor was a form of seduction when I was in my teens and 20s) would withstand too much scrutiny.
New Music: Gucci Mane raps about not crying when his dad died, how his big brother is the only person he trusts, eviction notices, counting his pennies to take the bus, says goodbye to dead friends and family, needs a hug, as do killers, and dubs himself a work in progress: all on the first song on his brilliant new album Mr. Davis. This might be the best album of the year.
Old Music: The Frank Sinatra album reviews is odd to a strange start, I’ve written the pre the first album and also the first album, now I am up to album # 2, and it is an awful lot like # 1… same arranger, same odds and sods. Oddly enough, it reminds nearly exactly of the way Presley would have recording stations first and choose album tracks next, as opposed to the Sgt Pepper single vision.
Sports: It is such a pity the Jets didn’t topple the mighty Patriots, though they sure did try and they were robbed. Giants win. Yankees need this one and how.
Movies: “Happy Death day” is a great slasher exploitation movie with a twist, it cost $5M and it made 25M last weekend. And it is just the most fun (Grade: B+). Jessica Rothe is going to be a huge star soon, it was that great a star turn as the cool, arrogant, selfish Tree.
