Television: Nothing personal, no really, though David Letterman was an asshole on the only two encounters I’ve had with him. However, the first episode of Letterman’s new Netflix talk show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” was blatantly nauseating kiss off rote and depressing. And patron Saint Of Blue States EXPOTUS Barack Obama was the guest. That might be starting at the top, but if your idea of interviewing is fawning over a book written over twenty years ago, you ain’t bringing a damn thing to the conversation. Cmon Dave, no hardball at all? No did you give permission to spy on Trump if only to have the reply on the record? Nothing but the bizarre concept of Obama crying in the car after dropping his daughter off at college for the first time? There is self-serving then there is nonsense, nothing about why HRC lost the election? I am not asking Letterman to get Obama to attack Trump but something newsworthy… The best moment was when Mahlia dissed Letterman. Apparently George Clooney is next, I can’t wait for the grilling over Harvey Weinstein. Grade: C
New Music: Who would have thought that two weeks into the new year Fall Out Boy would have the best single of the year so far? Or Lil Peep first runner up?
Old Music: Up to Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Sound Collage -an electronic ambient, The Impressions big breakthrough Keep On Pushing, and Frank Sinatra’s Swing Easy.
Concerts: Steve Earle tonight, Lana Del Rey on Friday. Next week the LGBTQ Ally Coalition.
Death: “President of Ireland Michael Higgins said in a statement, “It is with great sadness that I have learned of the death of Dolores O’Riordan, musician, singer and songwriter. Dolores O’Riordan and The Cranberries had an immense influence on rock and pop music in Ireland and internationally. I recall with fondness the late Limerick TD Jim Kemmy’s introduction of her and The Cranberries to me, and the pride he and so many others took in their successes. To all those who follow and support Irish music, Irish musicians and the performing arts her death will be a big loss.” If you are spotty on them, try “Dreams”. Still can’t remember? “in my head, in my head…”
Sports: I am working on a project in Minneapolis and so very excited that the Vikings won that nailbiter. I would love to see the first home field advantage in Superbowl history. Are the Knicks done for the season, beating the Nets doesn’t prove much?
Weather: We would like to congratulate God on the coldest winter in living memory, however he has made his point and should now knock it off.
