Jam Today: Wednesday, April 11th, 2018
Sports: The Yankees shellacking by the Red Sox, a 1 – 14 take down so brutal that the the Yankee Universe is in a state of extended confusion. The problem is what we knew it would be, pitching and the old standby he who lives by the homerun also loses by the strike out. The year is very early but when your arch rivals are 9 – 1 and you are 5 – 6, ut is no cause for celebration. Speaking of 9 – 1, that is the Mets standing as I write. If this Yankees team is a dud, all I think is please, please, please fire Brian Cashman.
Old Music: The next Frank SInatra was recorded over EIGHT MONTHS in 1956 and released in 1957, Close To You, with a string quartet, one reason I do this is to hear albums I simply wasn’t aware of, and this is a big one. I am up to Ridin’ High with the Impressions, a return to r&b and a strong rhythm section, and the eagerly anticipated, almost bound to disappoint upon rehearing, Paul McCartney’s Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, produced by Radiohead go to guy Nigel Goodrich.
New Music: As we await the new Nicki Minaj, Cardi B has dropped one of the best albums of the year, I don’t know any hip hop fan who isn’t crazy about it. The new A$AP Rocky song is his best since “LSD,” and the new Azealia Banks is masterful.
POTUS: I just can’t take a man who refers to shiny new Drones heading to Syria in a world where Russia is jamming the Drone signal, with any seriousness. He is going to sleepwalk us into a catastrophe.
Theatre: The new “Carousel” is one of the best musicals around, add “Wicked” to “Aladdin” to “Frozen” and not one song is as good as its lowest moment. “The Iceman Cometh” is a monumental bummer, but we knew that…
Television: Can I just say no to “Roseanne” -I wasn’t a fan of it the first time round either.
