If you are a die-hard fan of the King, you may hate this video. I personally find it very cheesy, and it’s not necessarily because of Kate Moss’ presence. I have a tendency to find any re-arrangement of a song showcasing a model, especially decades after the death of the interpret, completely exploitative and superfluous, but the Presley family has to make a living…
Kate Moss stars in this brand new video for Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder Of You’ showcasing Elvis’ great voice and a new orchestral accompaniment.
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London by producers Don Reedman and Nick Patrick, the song is part of an album with the same title featuring ‘Elvis’ most dramatic original performances augmented with lush new arrangements by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’. The album was released last October, and did extremely well, as it reached number 1 on the UK Albums Charts and sold 65,500 copies in its debut week, earning a BPI Silver award.
I suppose they needed a video with a pretty girl to extent these incredible sales till Christmas. Since we already have recorded versions and videos of Elvis performing this same song, they needed a fresh new face. However, this video with Moss lip syncing the King, wearing the King’s famous black leather jumpsuit, and climaxing on the grand piano, is guaranty to irritate most of the fans, just look at the number of thumbs down on YouTube: 843 and counting. Why using Kate Moss by the way? Because of her high cheek bones and a certain Presley-like aesthetic, or because Riley Keough (Elvis’ beautiful grand daughter) didn’t want to do it?
