Dhani Harrison

It’s summer and a lot is happening, especially at the end of this week, choices have to be made, and you have no excuse to stay home on Saturday night with all the shows happening around town that night!

On Monday July 24th, Dhani Harrison plays at the Echo, the show is already sold out and it’s not difficult to understand why when you are a Beatles’ progeny. His new album IN///PARALLEL will be available on October 6th, and I am sure we’ll have a preview of some songs on Monday night. His friend, the very talented Mereki, is opening.

The residency of Bloody Death Skull has moved to the Echoplex for this reason, Chrome Canyon, LA Takedown and r.r. barbadas are opening. At the Satellite, electronic-pop duo AOE is continuing its residency with Lapel and Pavy.

And if I was not going to see Dhani, I will certainly go see Starcrawler at It’s A School Night! Brett, Night Drive, Yungblud and Lido Pimienta (this is a lot of bands) are also performing.

On Tuesday 25th, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready is in conversation with Cameron Crowe at the Regent, it’s another sold out show but you may still find tickets here. McCready will sign copies of his ‘Of Potato Heads and Polaroids’ scrapbook, documenting his tours and travels with a polaroid camera.

Damien Marley is signing copies of his new album ‘Stony Hill’ at Amoeba

The Satellite has a free show on a Tuesday with StaG, Brothertiger and Deep Breaths, and since it reads ‘farewell show’ it may be the last time to catch them live?

On Wednesday 26th, Wolf Alice play another sold out show at the Echo (again tickets may be found here), Polyplastic and dynamite Z Berg are opening

Another Z girl, ZZ Ward is at the Grammy Museum, and usually artists play an acoustic set over there.

The mighty rockers Warbly Jets (that I have seen several times during their residency at the Satellite) have a show at the Roxy with King Shelter and Pinky Pinky.

And Lana Del Rey will have a very special performance at Amoeba at 11 am!! All the tickets have already been sold out for the earlybird diva, as you had to buy her last album ‘Lust for Life’ to attend the show. Last time I saw her at this place, she sang like 3 or 4 songs, so I hope she will perform a bit longer for her fans this time.

On Thursday 27th, the Twilight Concert Series with bring Miami Horror and their alternative dance electronica, at Santa Monica Pier. Cleopold will play first, and Thee Commons will take over the Levitt Pavilion for a another free show and a lot of punk Cumbias.

Psychic Love has another free show at the Satellite with Night Talks, Bones Muhroni, and Rival Cavves, and LA’s favorite punk duo No Age play a show at the Smell with Purity and Kyrie

On Friday 28th, New York songwriter and guitarist Steve Gunn will perform at the Echo with Heron Oblivion and Mary Lattimore

Soul R&B legends Daryl Hall & John Oates will play their first night at the Staples center with Tears For Fears and Allen Stone. They also have a show on Saturday, and Bush are playing at the Hollywood Palladium with She Wants Revenge

On Saturday 29th, Sound in Focus at Annenberg Space for Photography will host a free show for the guitar duo virtuoso Rodrigo Y Gabriela with Natalia La Fourcade.

Vampire Weekend Baio is going solo for a free show at Levitt Pavilion with Starro.

Metal legends Metallica play at the Rose Bowl with Avenged Sevefold and Gojira.

Waxahatchee, Cayetana and Snail Mail are at The Regent Theater

Rhett Miller is at the Troubadour with Kate Micucci

Steve Gunn has another show (free this time) at the Getty

Portugal. the Man will take over the Palladium for a sold out show, but they have another one at the same place on Sunday.

Rooney is at the Teragram Ballroom with Run River North

The unstoppable Mike Watt is at the Smell with Leisure World, Kiddo and TraPsPs

And since it is a very busy day, the Broad has one of its Summer Happenings called Strange Forest, with Devendra Banhart and many artists exploring Japanese pop and traditional music’s influence on culture in the US, as seen through the fantastical lens of Takashi Murakami… not the most superficial Saturday show you can attend.

On Sunday 30th, beside a second show for Portugal. The Man at the Palladium, Cholo Goth Prayers, High-Functioning Flesh and Night Club have another edition of Part Time Punks at the Echoplex.
