A lot of shows are happening this week, may be a bit more than usual?

On Monday 18th, big stars are playing as New Order is at the Hollywood Bowl, Eric Clapton at the Forum, Explosions in the Sky at the Greek Theater. And of course, the residencies are still happening: Jesse Jo Stark with The Pink Slips, Laura Jean Anderson, Dr. Doctor are at the Echo, New Language at the Satellite with AEGES, Eureka the Butcher, Fast Friends, Moons of Mars at the Bootleg with O’Neill Hudson and Silent Rival and The Entire Universe at the Zebulon with the Abigails, Golden Animals and JD King… who is actually Linda Ramone’s boyfriend!

The Troubadour has a Help Houston Heal show: Hurricane Harvey Relief Benefit with Robert Glasper, Letoya Luckett, Bryan-Michael Cox, Estelle, Lupe Fiasco, BJ The Chicago Kid, and the Bootleg has another one, a Texas Flood Relief shows with a lot of generous musicians participating: Austin McCutchen & The Western Stars, Christian Lee Hutson, Brian Whelan, Elijah Ocean, Gethen Jenkins, Leslie Stevens, Ben Reddell Band, Sie Sie Benhoff, Albert and his Dreamboats, Sam Morrow, Brent Rademaker, Charlie Overbey And The Broken Arrows.

Finally, Orchin is at the Hi Hat with Alms, Bane’s World and Shidü, it’s a Minty Boi production, so expect the unexpected and very underground

On Tuesday 19th, Future Islands are at the Greek Theater, MHD is at the Fonda, and Olivia O’Brien has a sold-out show at the Echo with Josh Levi

On Wednesday 20th, Harry Styles at the Greek theater, RAC is at the Fonda with NVDES, and the intriguing Zola Jesus is at the Regent Theater with Cold Showers. Microdose, featuring the experimental group Arthur King and the Night Sea (with Aaron Espinoza of Earlimart) have a free show at the Hi Hat, and Japanese Breakfast has a sold-out show at the Echo with Mannequin Pussy and the Spirit of the beehive, Jennie Vee, who is the bassist of Eagles of Death Metal, is having a solo show at the Resident with Sun Colony, Brass Box and Boots Electric (i.e. Jesse Hughes) is DJing for the night

On Thursday 21st, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers play their first show of their series of gigs at the Hollywood Bowl, Chicano Batman play their first of their 3 shows at the Fonda theater (with Khruangbin and Rudy De Anda), Kevin Morby has sold out his show at the Teragram Ballroom with Shannon Lay (of Feels), Macklemore has a release show at the Echoplex, but of course, it’s already sold-out. There are a few signing/meet and greet events at Amoeba this week, and the first one to notice is Prophets of Rage at Amoeba at 6 pm, and apparently it is not sold out yet!

On Friday 22nd, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have another show at the Hollywood Bowl, Milky Chance are at the Hollywood Palladium, Chicano Batman have their 2nd show at the Fonda theater with Khruangbin and Brainstory, and Iron & Wine have an intimate show at the Grammy Museum.

The Bronx is at the El Rey Theater with one of my favorite Plague Vendor and ‘68, Psychic TV are at the Echoplex with LA Drones, Deerhoof are at the Teragram Ballroom with Christina Schneider’s Genius Grant, Mayya and the Revolutionary Hell Yeah! Thomas Rhett is at the Greek Theater, The Wailers are at the Roxy with Subatomic Sound System, Wheeland Brothers, INVSN (who are actually members of Refused) have a show at the Echo, with Iress  opening, and David Lynch is signing the new Twin Peaks soundtrack at Amoeba at 6 pm, but this event has been sold out since it was announced!

On Saturday 23rd, WAND are at the Troubadour with Gun Outfit and Darto, Fleet Foxes with Beach House at the Hollywood Bowl, Chicano Batman have another show at the Fonda theater with Khruangbin and El Haru Kuroi, Very Be Careful celebrate their 20th anniversary at the El Rey with Bombon and Future Pigeon and Kasabian are at the Wiltern

And the Hi Hat has a free panel of discussion about journalism and music called: PITCH PERFECT PANEL: NAVIGATING THE WORLD OF PRESS AND PUBLICITY, featuring Danielle Bacher, Katie Bain, Caroline Borolla (Clarion Call), Christine Morales (Epitaph / Anti- Records), Mara Shalhoup (LA Weekly), Caitlin White (Uproxx Music)

On Sunday 24th, Solange, Blood Orange with King, Keleia, Moses Sumney and Kelsey Lu are at the Hollywood Bowl for a Cosmic Journey, Ben Folds at the Theater at Ace Hotel with Tall Heights, Swervedriver are at the Teragram Ballroom, Frankie Rose is at the Echoplex with Suburban Living and Business of Dreams, Generacion Suicida is at the Echo with Fantasy Lane and Die Group. The Hi Hat hosts another benefit show for all the victims of natural disasters from Irma to Harvey featuring Lens Mozer, Dominique Pruitt, Mara Connor, Desure, Paige Calico, Nightingale Rodeo, and Grizzly Bear has a sold out show at Zebulon cafe.
