It’s Labor Day, and it’s a slow week for shows, but there is a Nightshift Labor Day Music in Grand Park today with Grace Potter, The Revolution, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Ozomatli, Poncho Sanchez, B-Side Players. Not a lot of residencies have started because of the Holidays but NEW LANGUAGE starts its September Residency at the Satellite with Cuesta Loeb, Convey, The New Pacific, and The Entire Universe has one at Zebulon with Reggie Watts, Fascinator, Cola Boyy. And there is a Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief with War Tapes, Las Cruxes & Wellness at the Resident.

On Tuesday 5th, the Hi Hat hosts another Hurricane Harvey Benefit with these crazy men who call themselves The Manx, and Slut Island, Kali Kazoo, and Luke Rathborne is playing the Bootleg with NO Win, Eli and the Itches.

On Wednesday 6th, the Hollywood Bowl celebrates Quincy Jones: ‘THE A&M YEARS RICHARD BONA & MANDEKAN CUBANO JONAH NILSSON’. W I R E S is at the Hi Hat with See Monkey See, Mammoth, while Beachwood Coyotes has a EP release party, with Hate Drugs and Blushh at the Satellite, and Kirin J Callinan is playing at the Bootleg with Fatal Jams and Spike Fuck.

On Thursday 7th, Stiff Little Fingers are at the El Rey with Death By Unga Bunga. The Roxy goes metal with Decapitated & Thy Art Is Murder, Fallujah, Ghost Bath, and Eric Clapton Collaborator Doyle Bramhall II is at the Teragram Ballroom. See Through Dresses are at the Satellite with Minnow, Draag, and Children. New Mystics are at the Echo with HOTT MT, The Red Pears, Yeses, while the Hi Hat has a Hip Hop night with Kosha Dillz’s Tour Kick-Off, and FLAVIA, Georgi Kay, Dean Risko, h2the, shlick smit. Finally, Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar is at Amoeba.

On Friday 8th, M.C. Hammer is at the Staples center with Special guests Keyshia Cole, Goapele, V Bozeman and Oakland Fight Club. Vallis Alps are at the Echoplex with Saro and Nylo, Kolars, Livingmore and Moded are at the Echo, Wovenhand is at the Bootleg with King Dude, and garage rock quintet The Knitts are at the Hi Hat with Bloody Death Skull, and New American.

On Saturday 9th, it’s time for Sunstock Solar Arts & Music Festival at a new location with Ra Ra Riot, Robert DeLong, Run River North, Wild Cub, Trapdoor Social, Bloodboy, Fuzzy Crystals and others.

Allison Weiss with Cillie Barnes, Wait. Think. Fast., Naomi Greene are at The Echo, the Bootleg has a ‘Ring the Alarm showcase‘, featuring No Parents, OOFJ, Vs Colour, Nights & Weekends, Kevin Nichols. Finally, New York post-hardcore band Quicksand plays a sold out show at the Teragram Ballroom with No Joy

On Sunday 10th, Tender (Popshop West 049), Parade Of Lights, Traces are at the Echo, and the Hi Hat host a Common Ground Fest West featuring Layne, WRENN, Glacier Veins, Super Whatever, Sincerely Me, Cory Wells, Point North, Early Internet, Charlie Saxton, Frankie Foti.
