Last Night, They Were Young: Congratulations Class of 2012
I have to tell you I love our writers, Mary Magpie, Henry Sins and Layna Cloud. Each one of them have come face to face with some pretty hardcore obstacles this year, but better yet they have all slain their dragons.
Last night our writers boarded a cruise ship for the Senior Prom. Well, Layna and Henrys Senior Prom, Mary just happens to be dating a senior so what a wonderful opportunity to get all three together in their finest threads.
The adventures on the horizon for these guys are unimaginable. After next months graduation the preparation begins for college. No more moms dinner, no more Bob the Builder sheets out and left to prove that all those years of groundings and punishments paid off, making them competent citizens.
Enough of that though.. what's important is the music- here is what they hoped to hear
First up the ridiculously elegant Layna Cloud. So smart, tough and beautiful. This girl right here has kicked life in the ass and as her Twitter indicates, this chick has no filter. I often wonder if she's not really my kid, then I remember I'm not half as cool. Accepted into a prestigious North East University, she beat the odds with a muthfuckin golf club…DALE!
"Like Glue" Sean Paul
You can't go wrong with old school Sean Paul. The song is upbeat, fun to dance to, and reminds me of those parties my sisters used to have downstairs I wasn't allowed to go to when I was younger.
"Mr. Saxobeat" Alexandra Stan
The moment I heard this song, I felt it in my fist, and it went flying into the air. This is a great party song.
"We Belong Together" Mariah Carey
There is always a place in my heart for Mariah Carey. This is a great track to eat dinner to, while screeching to the top of my lungs and choking.
"Dutty Wine" Tony Matterhorn
Of course, what would a party be without the dutty wine?! Upbeat dance hall, and overall a great song to get wild.
"Round Of Applause" Waka Flocka Flame
Do I really need to say it? This song is an ass shaking song, and therefore it is perfect for those who got the chub to back back back it up. I love Waka.
Next up is Henry Sins. The tallest hipster I have ever seen. I wish I had more time with this guy. A brilliant mind and apparently quite the thespian who I will catch in Cabaret this week. Henry is not only breathtakingly handsome but is one of the most upbeat and positive thinkers I have ever met. I'm honored to have him on board and I adore him. Headed off to College in the fall, I hope to hang on to him as much as I can this summer.
"Signal de Plane" by Elephant Man – Because if I'm going to dance, it's gonna be to an insanely awesome dancehall song that is sure to get everyone else dancing as well.
"King of the Dancehall" by Beenie Man. If I win Prom King, I will be the official Prom King of the Dancehall, and this song will be my anthem.
" Lights (Bassnectar Remix)" by Ellie Goulding. This song is an incredible dancing song and I can definitely see the floors shaking and lights flashing when it plays.
"Ignite Cherie" by The White Panda. This is a remodeling of the classic R. Kelly song, "Ignition (Remix)", and it combines crazy club beats with a classic that everyone will love.
"Tie Me Down" by the New Boyz. This will be my entrance song because every time someone has asked me who I'm taking to prom, I've merely quoted this song and said "I think you need to close yo mouth cause she aint gon tie me down, tie me down, tie me down" as I dance out of the room. True story.
And finally the adorable Mary Magpie. I have known this girl for over 15 years. I have watch this girl evolve almost daily and though I may sometimes wonder what the hell is going on with her musical tastes I'm still the one paying for it. For those of you unaware the amazing rocknyc writer who has been working here since she was 12 is my daughter. Yikes shes growing up pretty fast..
"Candy Shop", 50 Cent- It's ridiculous and has enough old school to make it cool again.
"Bye Bye Bye", NYSYNC- We all jammed to it as youngsters and having it play would be like having an old friend on the dance floor. Plus Layna will go nuts if there is no NYSYNC
"We Are Young", fun- It's the anthem of the year
"Womanizer", Brittany Spears- Peoples reactions to this song are usually hilarious- a must play
"Twist and Shout"- The Beatles- Let's be honest, this is the best song to dance to EVER.
And now the question remains, did they hear it all? I couldn't be more proud of these thugs. Congrats guys.. and Mary you got two years left..get studying.
