First Elvis Costello made a stance about the ridiculously priced box set offered up on his behalf, now Motorhead. It seems early catalogs in shiny new packaging are earning a kings ransom for the fat cat record companies. If we believe what we read- bands and artists have no control over it
'Unfortunately greed once again rears its yapping head,' says iconic frontman Lemmy Kilmister. 'I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!' Motorhead have no control over what's done with these early songs, and don't want fans to think that the band is involved in putting out such a costly box set.
I like the word ‘completists’, we all know the guy who has to have every recording ever made by a particular artist- its nice to see this obsession addressed.
Should we not be able to buy what we want? Of course! But if a band says don’t do it- will that sway anyone’s thoughts? I don’t think so.
Perhaps we should invest more in the future of geezer bands such as M’head by supporting their new work Go out now and buy the new CD “The World Is Ours” and the sister DVD “The World is Ours Part 1”
