Listen to MainMan’s New Single ‘Still Remains’
MainMan is a relatively new band that I got the chance to see last Monday at the Echo during the YIP YOPS’ residency, and I noticed that they did leave a great impression on the crowd, with a layered and multi-influenced music.
This past week, the band has released a new single ‘Still Remains’, a song floating between dream pop and guitar-driven rock while producing an instant familiarity. When I saw them, I compared singer Morgan Demeter’s soothing vocals to James Taylor’s, whereas the music seemed to draw its inspiration from several classic bands, without anything too obvious: As a matter of fact, the names of Pink Floyd, Built to Spill, My Morning Jacket, and Earth, Wind & Fire have been dropped in reviews.
One thing is certain, MainMan is looking for the hooky and jazzy side of rock ‘n’ roll, with plenty of guitar developments and a timeless sound that even brought Donald Fagen in my mind at times.
Surrounded by former Bear On Fire members Chris Mintz-Plasse (on bass) and Nick Chamian (on guitar), and The Hammerhead’s Ryan Dean, Morgan Dementer’s voice effortlessly dominates the catchy and ethereal new single… and if you are a movie fan, you may recognize (I didn’t!) bassist Chris Mintz-Plasse, well known for his role of McLovin’ in the 2007 Judd Apatow classic, ‘Superbad’.
