The only time I have seen Lana Del Rey in person was at the start of her career in 2012 at Irving Plaza where I wrote (here): “Lana can’t dance, can’t move, her coy smile and otherness might work on video but up close it is up to nothing whatsoever and there wasn’t a second in the forty minute set that had the ring of passion and possibility”. Five and a half years later, Lana is performing at the Prudential on Friday and I am off to see if she has learnt anything over the years. You should too.

Monday – Say Anything – Irving Plaza – First rate power pop

Monday – Memphis Bleek – Also Performing Skyzoo, Ruste Juxx & Cambatta – Hip hop great Memphis Bleek is welcome any time even if mostly for his work on Hard Knock Life Vol 2.

Tuesday – Dave East – Irving Plaza – The Harlem rapper has one of the best flows in the business and a new album.

Tuesday – Steve Earle – The last time I saw Steve he was awful, the time before he was great (opening for Levon Helm), so who knows? One thing is for sure, if you’re gonna go go on this day during his annual residency and catch opening act Sarah Jarosz.

Wednesday – Walker & the Brotherhood of the Grape – BB Kings – The ever protean Walker Hornung is at his best when performing rock attacked by flamenco guitar and when he adds Soca to the mix he is a no miss act.

Thursday – ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO W/ CHRIS STAMEY & MILLIE MCGUIRE – City Winery – Alejandro, the legendary Tex Mex and everything else rocker, is still shopping his fine 2016 album and Chris Stamey? Who knows what he is up to, but we know it is worth finding out.

Thursday – Yams Day 2018 – A$AP Mob & Friends with A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Twelvyy, A$AP Nast, A$AP Ant, French Montana, Flatbush Zombies, Playboi Carti, Lil Yachty, Nav, G Perico, Aston Matthews, Da$H & Retch,
Cozy Boys (DJ Set), Ali of TDE (DJ Set) – New York Expo Center – I went to one of these Yams Day in 2015 (here) and left at 1130 and still missed a chunk of A$AP Rocky’s set, so if you are in the market for 90 minutes of DJ’s before getting to Nav, be my guest. If t wasn’t in the Bronx I might well do it myself.

Friday – Glen Hansard – The release party for his new album I guess, if I wasn’t going to see Lana Del Rey I would go for it.

Saturday, Sunday – Fetty Wap – The FMF Tour – Irving Plaza – One of the worst live acts I’ve ever seen… but the new single is great and he did have a broken leg at the time.

Saturday – Straight To Hell (Clash Tribute), Rockaway Bitch (All Girls, All Ramones) – Arlene’s Grocery – I haven’t been to this favorite Ludlow haunt in ages, last time was a terrific set by Susan Said. This sounds awesome… an all girl Ramones and the beloved Clash? Maybe, if Lana doesn’t wear me out on Friday.

Saturday – The Weeklings – The Beatles loving power-pop band are always worth checking out.
