The last Blondie album, Pollinator, was another facsimile of a great Blondie album, but nothing really stuck, and while we admire the band, and we admire the album, we aren’t caught in Debbie’s web any longer. Garbage’s album was a major bummer that left you wondering where the, you know, pop is. They perform together at the Beacon on Tuesday and rumor has it that Blondie pushed too hard on the newbie and even so, this is a terrific line-up…

Monday – The Greene Space – Conor Oberst – “Ever wonder what your favorite musician’s podcast would sound like? Join More Perfect correspondent Sean Rameswaram for an evening of conversation and performance with Conor Oberst.” – it sold out and if you are a fan of the last two albums you won’t get much closer to the former teen idol.

Tuesday – Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams Tour – Metlife – Every time I go to Metlife, I am scared I’ll never make it back alive. Really. And Coldplay ain’t worth the hassle to me… but to you?

Tuesday – Sunday – Phish – Madison Square Garden – Definitely worth checking out at least once on this run.

Tuesday, Wednesday –  J. Cole, Anderson .Paak, Bas, J.I.D, Ari Lennox – Barclay Center – I am sick of waiting for Paak to reach headliner in major stadiums status, but if he has to open for anyone, J. Cole is the man to open for.

Wednesday – Gillian Welch The Harrow & The Harvest In Concert Vinyl Release Tour – Beacon Theatre – At that big time T Bone Burnett new folk show at Town Hall a coupla years back,  Welch was the best thing.

Thursday – Brad Paisley: Weekend Warrior World Tour 2017 – Jones Beach –  I haven’t seen him in years and years because I don’t buy into his records anymore. Being less smart than your Press Releases clam is never a money move. Still, if this was closer to home I’d have checked in.

Thursday – Melvins – Irving Plaza – Sludge metal as punk hybrid by past masters.

Thursday – American Acoustic with Punch Brothers and I’m With Her – Beacon Theatre – Sure, a snooze and a half, but pretty and melodic plus what prize Aoife Donovan (lower on the bill)?

Friday – André Cymone, Tomás Doncker & True Groove All Stars, Kellindo Parker – Bowery Electric – After the Revolution you are probably as wary of former Prince friends as I am, but a bass player is such a plus for a funk band. Tomas Doncker just wrote about Frank Ocean and Solange for us, so let’s see what he has to bring himself. Kellindo is Maceo’s brother.

Friday – Fantasia & Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds – Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk – Fantasia is bonkers, sometimes in a  good way, Babyface was the primary r&b soul man of the late 1980s.

Friday – Bachata Night with Hector Acosta & Tobe Love – La Boom – If you are having problems with Romeo Santos use this as a primer

Saturday – Dave Chappelle & Chris Rock: Live From Radio City – Radio City Music Hall – Dave is there all week, I chose the Chris Rock show for obvious reasons, and if they plan to take my cell phone and put it in a ziplock bag I am gonna kick em in the knees.

Sunday – Rancid and Dropkick Murphys From Boston to Berkeley Tour – Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk – Nice line up… but who wants to go to Coney Island on a Sunday evening?
