A quiet week with Labor Day round the corner, but any week would find the working for the Yankee dollar, Soca Queen Calypso Rose  a  top pick. Calypso Rose is  holding a party at Stage 48 on Wednesday; it  starts at 5pm and goes to 11pm, and includes a performance by superstar David Rudder. I know you wish you were on a beach somewhere but since you are in the concrete jungle this is the next best thing… Meanwhile, I am hoping the King Of Crossover Soca, Walker Hornung, can be convinced to come with me…  Calypso Rose lives in Queens, so maybe she can give me a lift after the show.

Monday, Tuesday – Lady Gaga – Citi Field – What her last album Joanna proved was that people were sick of Lady Gaga, her  music was relatively intact. She turned her back on the Little Monsters, one of the earliest sign posts to the power of social media. Expect a terrific run through of her hits, her misses, and her new one. The final encore is “Million Reasons”… let that be a lesson to all of us.

Thursday – Matchbox Twenty & Counting Crows: A Brief History Of Everything Tour – Jones Beach – Nothing personal, but both of these bands are not untypically iffy. Still Matchbox has “Push” and Counting Crows are performing “Mr. Jones” again… though not “Round Here”.

Thursday – Little Dragon – This Swedish dance band remain a unique multi-media spectacle of robotics and pop soul.

Friday – Hot 97’s On Da Reggae & Soca Tip – Featuring Busy Signal, Kranium, Sean Paul, Charly Black, Konshens, Bunji Garlin, and the one time I went to a “da Reggae Tip” gig, it was a disorganized mess so caveat emptor.
