I’ve been on the outs with Craig Finn for a coupla years now, the Hold Steady’s set opening for the Replacement was a real disappointment, and their last two albums weren’t up to much, the last Craig Finn solo album was the definition of overreach, and if you have gone out in search for a song as good as “Balcony,” you haven’t found it. But Craig’s new solo We All Want The Same Thing, is a welcome return to St. Paul on his most consistent album in a decade. Soooo…. a trip to City Winery to watch him perform it in person seems like a smart move…. very smart move.

Wednesday – Never Shout Never – Webster Hall – The former young man of emo is still around, tattoos intact.

Wednesday – John Mayer – Madison Square Garden – I’ve never been a believer, that much is true… however, he is a world class guitarist and he has been begging for forgiveness: “What has to happen for a guy to believe that he’s totally well-adjusted and be that far out of touch? My GPS was shattered, just shattered.” Hey, apologize to Taylor not me.

Wednesday – Billy Joel – NYCB LIVE, Home of The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum – I got a little sick of him, but you won’t if you’ve never experienced it before and this is the big reopening of Nassau Coliseum, where I went a total of once (to see Kiss) and swore never to go again.

Thursday – Stevie Nicks – NYCB LIVE, Home of The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum – Day two they get Stevie.

Thursday – Tomas Doncker And The True Groove Allstars – Bowery Electric – He promises a performance of epic proportions and hasn’t been wrong once.

Friday – Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony 2017 – Barclay Center – The one time I went it was stupefyingly boring. But but but Joan Baez is being inducted…

Friday – The Lox – Irving Plaza – The terrific 90s rapper is always welcome.

Saturday, Sunday – Bon Jovi – Madison Square Garden – Say what you will about Jon, he entertains the faithful and the faithless alike.

Sunday – Alec Baldwin – BAM – An interview and at the height of his career,  the Donald Trump impressionist might be worth watching!
