I have an innate dislike of hype, especially when it comes to bands, so I passed on Sunflower Bean, a psychedelic indie pop band -I was being told to like them too much and they were good but not that good. But their sophomore effort 22 In Blue is that good, it isn’t worth fighting them anymore. I give up. The band is terrific and their gig on Thursday at Bowery Ballroom is a must see.

Monday – Stephen Schwartz’s 70th Birthday – Hudson Theatre – I am a reactionary when it it comes to Broadway Musicals but even so I wanna go to see this celebration, which doubles as the debut of the new concert series, DGF: Toasts, honoring the life and work of American theater’s greatest writer. Schwartz is the composer/lyricist (I know) of “Godspell,” “Pippin,” and, lest we forget, “Wicked”.

Monday – Lily Allen – Monday – Has anybody shot herself in the foot like this before.? Career hari-kari and she wanted to come back and couldn’t. I love her, if it was the Beacon I might make it on the off chance you performs “Alfie”.

Monday – Rick Ross – BB Kings – The last days of the terrific venue begins with one of the strongest voices in rap.

Tuesday – The Devon Allman Project w/ Special Guest Duane Betts – Sony Hall – Gregg’s kid.

Wednesday  – Monster Energy Outbreak Presents: Smokepurpp – Irving Plaza – The new album if first rate but like so many of these mumble rap guys, he can’t do it live. Still, Smokepurpp is young and maybe he’s improved

Thursday – The Sweet – Gramercy Theatre – Little Willie Willie won’t go home... GLAM ROCK!!!

Saturday –  George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic – BB Kings – Always an honor to catch up with the funk master.

Saturday – WILLIE NILE W/ EMILY DUFF – I wonder if the great man is still doing his Dylan tribute?

Saturday – Yasiin Bey – Sony Hall – Hang about, what happened to all that retirement stuff?
