The Jingle Ball gig last December was a relative disappointment after Taylor Swift’s 25th birthday party set three years prior, but, hey “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space” were crowd pleasers in ways that “…Ready For It” and “Look What You Made Me Do” never shall be. The truth is, Taylor peaked with Red, the last time we got to see her in something as small as an arena (20K as opposed to 80K seaters), she got away with 1989 because she had two smash hits to lean on, Reputation less so.  Taylor has a three night residency at MetLife Friday-Sunday, none of them sold out, although if she had performed just one night (or lowered the prices) she would have. There is something a little off putting about Taylor in 2018, too many missteps, too much ego, too money grubbing, and when you are as rich as Taylor perhaps you leave some money on the table to insure that your US gigs has the semblance of a hard to get, must see ticket… the way Speak Now was. It’s a must see anyway, I am going on Friday and I may add Saturday depending on how good it  is (I didn’t bother double dipping 1989 and I could have) (if it wasn’t in the terribly difficult to get out of MetLife, but MSG or Barclays, I would definitely go twice).

Monday – Chris Brown Presents: Heartbreak On A Full Moon Tour – Barclay Center – The keeper here is the first act, Rich The Kid though everybody else is pretty ace as well.

Monday, Tuesday – Foo Fighters: Concrete And Gold Tour ’18 – Madison Square Garden – Worst rock band ever, but at least Dave won’t be stuck in a wheelchair this time.

Monday, Tuesday – Cracker – City Winery – We need em more than a hole in the head.

Monday – Richie Homie Quan – Gramercy Theatre – Atlanta trap guy, not bad either.

Monday – 2018 Honda Civic Tour presents Charlie Puth Voicenotes – Radio City Music Hall – If Shawn Mendes played piano and had a better voice…

Wednesday –  Janelle Monae – Dirty Computer Tour – Hulu Theatre At Madison Square Garden – With the best album of the year under her belt, Monae brings us her black girl magic, crazy, classic life.

Wednesday – Weezer, Pixies, Sleigh Bells – Jones Beach – While my dislike for Weezer is nearly as all encompassing as my dislike for Foo Fighters. this is as smart a line up as you will find.

Wednesday – Dickey Betts with Marshall Tucker Band & Devon Allman feat Duane Betts – Beacon Theatre –  He was superb when I saw him in 2014 (here) and with Greg gone is the last Allman Brother that really, really matters.

Thursday, Friday – Animal Collective (performing “Sung Tongs”) – Town Hall – Like the 2010s never happened

Thursday – Beck – Madison Square Garden – Wait, only one song off Sea Changes??? And it isn’t “The Golden Age”?????? I can not even. On the plus side, Jenny Lewis is replacing Glass Animals… and she was so sweet when I met her at Gov Ball I regret every nasty thing I ever wrote about her.

Friday – Lori McKenna – City Winery – This is the only performer this week I can’t get to and seriously wish I could, the Bostonian folkie has a terrific new album on the horizon and is a must see.

Saturday – Coheed and Cambria & Taking Back Sunday – Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk – Back to the Amory Wars

Saturday – Louis Armstrong’s Wonderful World- Action Bronson, The Soul Rebels, and more – Flushing Meadows Corona Park – I was wondering what Action was doing there but a) both Louis and Action love ganga and b) they both have a Flushing connect.

Sunday – Eban Brown (Former Lead Singer of The Stylistics) – Mercury Lounge – Well, yes he is, but only since 2000… still it is a 530p show and there is a Stylistics medley.
