The worst thing about last year’s Black Jingle Ball, aka Tidal X (my review here) was the constant badgering for political causes. Tuesday, when the third annual arrives expect more of the same. A benefit for Hurricane victims, (the first two years helped the Robin Hood Foundation), including Global Giving, All Hands Volunteers, Kids in Need Foundation, Direct Relief, One America Appeal, Greater Houston Community Foundation, American Civil Liberties Union, and Miami Community Foundation. Mini sets  are arm length: JAY-Z, DJ Khaled, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Vic Mensa, Yo Gotti, Joey Bada$$, Fifth Harmony, ASAP Ferg, Fat Joe, and Remy Ma,  Kaskade, Daddy Yankee, Jessie Reyez, Iggy Azalea, Willow Smith, Belly, Princess Nokia, Tee Grizzley, Chloe x Halle, Cipha Sounds, and Chris Brown. No Beyonce, true. Tuesday at Barclay Center.

Wednesday – First Aid Kit – Town Hall – The Indie folk duo from Sweden are about to hit a decade in the business, and if the first single off their upcoming release, “It’s A Shame” is the standard bearer, so much the better.

Thursday – Brand New – King’s Theatre – If Science Fiction isn’t the best album of the year, it is absolutely the best rock album of the year. A major achievement that had this show vying with Tidal X for best show of the week. Completely sold out but well worth a coupla hundred bucks on the secondary market.

Thursday – Margo Price All American Made Album Release Show – Rough Trade – The talented indie-country gal is pretty darn great on her new single “A Little Pain”.

Thursday – Japandroids – Brooklyn Steel – And Cloud Nothing. This is a superior punk rock concert.

Thursday – Darius Rucker – Hootie And The Blowfish lead singer has been performing country for so long, it sure ain’t at affectation.

Friday – Billy Joel – Madison Square Garden – Well on his way to his fourth year, this is a New York institution that must be seen at least once.

Friday – Foxy Brown – BB Kings – Really? A midnight show from the ill nana… Bummer, I’d have gone.

Sunday – Maceo Parker – BB Kings – The great sax man still gets on the right foot.
