My antipathy to rock and roll since, at least, Kurt Cobain’s death, is well documented on this website. But the lineup of hardcore bands at the Hammerstein on Monday is enough to get a non-believer out of bed: A Day To Remember, Papa Roach, Falling In Reverse, The Devil Wears Prada, is the best in genre one. rock nyc’s Mary Rudzis interviewed A Day To Remember in 2011 (here), and they are still going strong. This one should be, at the very least, epic. this Monday at Hammerstein Ballroom.

Monday – THE RED HOT CHILLI PIPERS – BB Kings – Sure, just another tribute band but ask yourself this, how much worse can they be to the real thing?

Monday – Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Brooklyn Steel –  Shout for “Storm”.

Tuesday – Steve Winwood, Lilly Winwood – The Capitol Theatre –  Lilly is Steve’s daughter.

Wednesday – Amy Rigby –  The Saint – The great all but creator of women alt-rock, Amy Rigby,  has a new album out, The Old Guys, which I missed in February despite Popdose’s Robert Ross’ rave where he wrote about one song “elegant, slightly mysterious piece that reminds me of sparkling water” (here). That should be enough to send you to New Jersey.

Wednesday – Beth Ditto – Brooklyn Steel – The gifted soul songstress as alt pin up girl.

Thursday – Moose Blood – Irving Plaza – Yeah, I know, but this UK modern emo band’s new album  I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore, adds ringing guitar to new old emo.

Thursday – Lewis Black – City Winery – The great comedian, if you thought he was pissed before…

Thursday – I’m With Her – Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan – Town Hall – The album was a bore but I bet they kill it live,  Jarosz opening for Steve Earle earlier this year was very impressive.

Thursday – Joe Budden: Oh, What a Night! W/ Hannibal Buress, Kyle Dion & Surprise – Highline – The best member of the truly super rap group Slaughterhouse is a real wise guy. Has he kissed and made up with Drake yet?

Friday – Demi Lovato, DJ Khaled, Kehlani – Barclay Center – I kinda liked DJ Khaled when I caught him opening for Beyonce a coupla years ago, and Kehlani is a terrific new r&b singer, but Demi is the reason I’m going, she is ALWAYS excellent.

Saturday – Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes – BB Kings – He coulda been a contender but he didn’t have the John Steinbeck in his soul to make him Springsteen.
