One of the most popular, most protean, most prescient pop soul bands of a; time, the Pointer Sisters were to the 80s what Destiny’s Child were to the 00s and beyond. From Springsteen covers to girl group originals, the four women nailed Allen Toussaint’s “Yes We Can,” dropped a sister and never looked back. At BB King’s on Saturday December 30th, go and skip New Year’s Eve.

Tuesday – Hallmark Channel Presents Trans-Siberian Orchestra 2017 – Prudential Center – Prog-rock as lower middle class hosannah, resist if you can.

Tuesday – David Guetta – City Winery – Should be hot, hot, hot.

Tuesday –  Petula Clark – BB King’s – The “Downtown” superstar of the 1960s is still a joy to behold.

Wednesday – PnB Rock – Gramercy Theatre – The miracle is that this man, who was three years old when his father was shot to death in front of him, and spent the next 17 years in huge trouble with the law, has emerged as a major r&b/hip hop player.

Wednesday – The Felice Brothers – Brooklyn Bowl – If you must listen to Americana, stay with these guys.

Thursday – Sunday – Phish: 4-Day Ticket Package (12/28-12/31) – Madison Square Garden – I spent New Year’s Eve with these guys last year, this year I’m going on Friday.

Thursday – Sunday – The Disco Biscuits – Playstation Theatre – One of the best jam bands around, funky groove children of the Meters.

Thursday – Sunday – The Fab Faux – City Winery – Until Marshall and Glenn decide to reunite, the Beatle band to beat.

Saturday, Sunday – Diarrhea Planet – Rough Trade – The punk poppers remain the worst named band of all time, and are still a lot of fun.

Sunday – Ozuna En Exclusiva Nye 2018 Celebration – DJ Alex Sensation is there as well, Ozuna just dropped a pretty good single “La Modelo” with Cardi B.

Sunday – Real Estate, Whitney, Woods – Brooklyn Steel – Wow, ambient pop Brooklyn 2000, that’s one way to bring in the New Year.

Sunday – Gov’t Mule – They will never be the Allman Brothers, but then again neither will you.

Sunday – David Guetta – New Year’s Eve in Brooklyn, NY – Depot 52 – I saw  DJ Guetta open for The Black Eyed Peas back in the day and he was the best thing about the evening.
