Kendrick Lamar is an undeniable rapper, the best in the business but he isn’t great at writing songs and that’s my biggest with damn. As a live performance I have seen him twice opening for Kanye West (not very good), once headlining Power 105.1 (not great but I was exhausted by the time he came on around midnight), once at Panorama (very good but not great), and once at Global Citizen (good not great, but again, tough to actually see him). SO Thursday at Barclay Center (he is also playing on Sunday), I will be the undecided vote sitting on my hands…

Tuesday – Rod Stewart With Special Guest Cyndi Lauper – Jones Beach – The last time I saw both these guys they were off their tuck, but the time before that Rod was on fire and well, Cyndi has always been a little unusual.

Wednesday – 8 Tour – Incubus with special guests Jimmy Eat World – Jones Beach – If you live in Long Island, this will catch you up on middling to average rock and roll.

Wednesday – First Ladies of Disco, Martha Wash, Evelyn Champagne King, Linda Clifford – BB Kings – I am going out that night and even so I would very seriously consider blowing it off to see this line up of disco queens. Goddamn Martha Wash sang back up for goddamn Sylvester…

Wednesday – PJ Harvey – Summerstage – This is what I am probably not going to in order to go to the first ladies of disco… the setlist is iffy… mostly her last two albums which I am not crazy about at a very noisy venue.

Thursday – Foreigner with Cheap Trick And Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience – Jones Beach – Abandon hip all ye who enter here.

Thursday – The Fabulous Thunderbirds feat. Kim Wilson – BB Kings – Sure, Wilson is the real deal but no Jimmy? Caveat emptor.

Friday, Saturday  – Phish – Madison Square Garden – Some nights they do it for me, most nights not so much

Saturday – Iron Maiden – The Book Of Souls Tour 2017 – Barclay Center – Live, they are the best old school English metal band still working.

Sunday – Ford Amphitheater In Coney Island – Wendy Williams All White Mixtape Beach Party: Volume 1 – With Naughty By Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Joe and more, it’s a pity it’s miles into Brooklyn on a Sunday.

Sunday – Tito Puentes – Luxury Infinity Yacht – Stock up on your framaine and go on this knockout yacht to see the great slsa singer.
