Live Through This: rock nyc’s Concert Picks Week Of September 26th, 2016
Kanye West closes the Autumn Governors Ball, The Meadows, two day festival. Saturdays line up isn’t much, but Sunday includes Chance The Rapper, and the 1975. The big question is, will Kanye be using his great big floating stage? I certainly hope not.
Monday – Adele – Madison Square Garden – The Bridget Jones of pop touring big time.
Tuesday – Metallica – Webster Hall – They were clearly awesome at Global Citizen on Saturday, and if you can get a ticket you should go absolutely. This is really the winter of Metallica made glorious summer.
Thursday, Friday – Kula Shaker – Rough Trade – Hayley Mills son is back with a band based solely upon George Harrison’s flirtation with Indian music.
Friday – Tedeschi Trucks Band – No, it isn’t March madness but the last time I saw em, maybe two years ago, they blew me away, and if I am not crazy over their new album, well, most jam bands have problems with recordings. There are six dates so take your pick.
Saturday, Sunday – The Roots Picnic – Bryant Park – Yeah, I’m not crazy about em either, but John Mayer is playing Saturday with D’Angelo headlining, and Wu Tang Clan are there on Sunday, and if they added Wu to Saturday it would be the gig of the year.
Saturday – ELVIS COSTELLO Detour – The Town Hall – Should be a goodie but I am holding out for the Imposters gig
Sunday – Midge Ure plus special guest Richard Lloyd from Television – ULTRAVOX!!! Did you know Midge’s sister is married to Barney Hoskyns? I saw her at the Hoskyns Q&A last February: not bad.
