Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concert Picks 1-1-18 – 1-7-18
Speaking of the 1990s, I did see Dave Matthews once, at MSG, at the peak of his fame, and was verily bored to death with a wet noodle of a performer with a voice like grated cheese and a tinny jammy proggy sound… I haven’t seen much reason to change my mind… I may on Saturday: Dave Matthews, Trey Anastasio Band, Aaron Neville and Hurray For The Riff Raff will join forces and perform at “A Concert for Island Relief,” which will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Saturday, January 6, 2018. All proceeds from the event will benefit hurricane relief efforts in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Tuesday – NRBQ – BB Kings – Good ol’ Terry Adams -still leading this unique bar band with its magnetic self-[preservation and rollicking good humor. I wish they’d been playing New Year’s Eve.
Tuesday – Steve Earle – City Winery – In the 1990s Earle was the greatest country guy in the world, and then he found God or Woody Guthrie or something and wasn’t. But if he was performing a Train A Comin’/I Feel Alright double header I’d be there.
Friday – Satisfaction – International Rolling Stones Tribute Show – Bergen Performing Arts Center – We suck so bad, not only don’t we get the Stones, we don’t even get the Stones tribute bands… If you’re in Englewood (and I don’t see why you would be…)
Friday – Jessi Mason – Rockwood – One of the best young singer-songwriters around, let’s see if she can bring it over an entire show.
Friday – RZA LIVE W/ SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMANCE BY THE WUTANG KILLA BEES AND INVITED GUEST INSPECTAH DECK (WUTANG ROLLING PAPER LAUNCH PARTY – I guess… RZA shoulda kept away from the brown acid.
Saturday – Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone – Proof you can go 50 years without a hit and still have a career.
