Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concert Picks 6-26-17 – 7-2-17

Here is a first, my concert pick of the week has been cancelled. The increasingly bizarre trap as alternative lifestyle XXXtentacion has cancelled Monday’s gig at Highline ballroom and the rest of his “Revenge” tour after his cousin got shot. Helen Bach told me about this guy a coupla weeks and while I am on the fence musicwise (I prefer Lil Pump -that guy is sick) and unfortunately it has taken me awhile to catch up. So I missed Lil Pump when he played Webster Hall in April and xxx has cancelled on me. Wanna feel old? Lil Pimp was born in 2000. So why my ick of the week? Because I live for stuff where some kid comes out of nowhere and changes the face of pop again. Now I could have picked U2 but… really, no comparison…

Monday – NRBQ – BB Kings – One of those bands that really deserved to break bigger than they did, a real rockers, breezy self-confidence with sound and idiom, and well worth a catch-up.

Tuesday – The Total Package Tour: NKOTB with Paula Abdul And Boyz II Men – Barclays Center – This is a pretty awesome line up if 80s teen funk is your thing.

Tuesday, Wednesday – John Legend – The Theatre At MSG – I like the new album enough to have seriously considered catching the charmer if I was going out the next night.

Wednesday, Thursday  – U2: The Joshua Tree Tour – MetLife – By the way, the reason U2 have an opening act is because they won’t go on stage before nightfall. I’m going Wednesday.

Friday – Wreckless Eric, Joe Jack Talcum (Dead Milkmen) – The Safari Room at El Cortez – He travelled the whole wide world to be here tonight…

Friday, Saturday – Enrique Iglesias & Pitbull – Madison Square Garden – I have a ticket for this in October, but I wouldn’t mind a double dip.

Saturday – Nickelback, Daughtry, Shaman’s Harvest – Jones Beach – I can’t stomach either band but you know, if it was closer to me I might have gone.
