Solange’s neo-r&b  was excellent at Panorama in July, a beautiful multi-media extravaganza. And I had pretty good sightlines, from the VIP section, though not GREAT sightlines of course, because it was a festival. So when I read where she is performing with Dave Chappelle as part of his ongoing residency I decided a second viewing was necessary. Also, I wonder if Chappelle has had time to think about Charlottesville?, this Tuesday at Radio City.

Monday – Michelle Shocked – City Winery – Ask for “Anchorage”.

Wednesday – John Mayer, Dawes – Jones Beach – Mayer is a terrific guitarist and Dawes is a FM fave, so this should be interesting at least.

Wednesday – Azealia Banks – Highline Ballroom – I saw Banks at Irving Plaza in April, 2015, and she was a big ball of wow, high energy, sexy, stopping a fight on the dancefloor with terse smartness. The problem with Banks isn’t her music, it is everything else.

Thursday – Mega Summer Concert – Madison Square Garden –  Don Omar, De La Ghetto, Wisin, Fat Joe, Bad Bunny, Alexis & Fido, Bryant Myers and more for this reggaeton extravaganza.

Thursday – The Temptations & The Four Tops with Mary Wilson & Martha Reeves – Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk – Motown, at least those who are still kicking, comes alive. PS: The Temptations win.

Friday – Lynyrd Skynyrd & Hank Williams Jr – PLAY FREEBIRD

Friday – The Flaming Groovies – Rough Trade – Still groovin after all these years.

Friday – Kendrick Lamar: The DAMN. Tour with YG & D.R.A.M. – Prudential Center – After Gucci’s terrible set at Jones Beach on Saturday, Kendrick sounds even better… YG instead of Future? Hmmmm….

Friday – Lil Yachty – Terminal 5 – I bought a ticket to the Billboard Hot 100 fest because I wanted to see Gucci Mane on Saturday and Lil Yachty on Sunday, but I blew off Sunday because Lil Yachty, Baby Trap superstar, is performing locally here. Can he bring it live on stage? We will see.

Saturday – Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, The Edgar Winter Band – Jones Beach – The new Alice Cooper album is aces.

Saturday – Marc Anthony – Full Circle Tour 2017 – Madison Square Garden – If it should be raining on Saturday I will be going to this instead.

Sunday – Luke Bryan – Jones Beach – Nobody has written longer and nastier about this guy than me, but he was terrific earlier this year at MSG.

Sunday – Anthony Hamilton – BB Kings – He remains one of our top r&b performers though a little less so on record.

Sunday – Aaron Neville Duo – City Winery – Some voice, eh?
