Rod Stewart has had a late resurgence after he finally stopped those American Standard albums, the 2013 Time stands as one of his great albums, and if Another Country doesn’t stand as anything of the sort, it was still a pretty good album. Live it is the same old stuff, “Young Turks,” “Tonight’s The Night,” “Have I Told You Lately,” and the last time I saw him, five years ago, he was running a little tired. On Tuesday, Rod returns to Madison Square Garden with Cyndi Lauper opening… he might not be in his prime but there is only one Rod The Mod…

Monday, Tuesday – A Very Special Evening with Regina Spektor Solo – Brooklyn Steel – – The last time I saw her I had front row at the Town Hall and all I saw was her shoes… better luck here…

Monday – Three Dog Night – The Winery – Mama told me not to come and it sold out before I told her where to jump.

Tuesday – Gin Blossoms (Record Release Show) – Gramercy Theatre – Doug Hopkins is one of our great, lost songwriters and with only a 1992 album, a masterpiece of an album, to show for it. Co-founder  Bill Leen, and Jesse Valenzuela, who also wrote songs for the album, have continued, and they are worth catching.

Tuesday – Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson: Twins Of Evil – Jones Beach – Rob Zombie is a bucket list guy for me and as for Marilyn, maybe he will almost kill himself again.

Wednesday – ABBA The Concert – Bergen Performing Arts Center – ABBA are having another moment and so the time couldn’t be better for a tribute band.

Friday – Brad Paisley Tour 2018 – Jones Beach – Brad’s material has been getting steadily worse over the years, and the last time I saw him live, 2009, he wasn’t that hot… but that was nine years ago and who knows?

Friday – Shakira – EL Dorado World Tour – Madison Square Garden –  I bought this ticket on Thu, Jun 29, 2017, so over a year later here is the make up date. She hit the heights with that FIFA song though Latin American pop is so big in 2018 this might well be the second coming.

Friday – Beres Hammond & Chronixx – New Jersey Performing Arts Center – A generation separates them but as Rastamen go, this is state of the art

Friday – Wussy – Rough Trade – Their last album sucked but they are pretty great on stage.

Saturday –  Jason Aldean: High Noon Neon Tour 2018 –  Madison Square Garden – I gave  Aldean a “B” at this venue back in 2013, on record he drags me but on stage he is a kick.

Saturday – Morris Day & the Time – Sony Hall – The halls, the halls, the halls…

Sunday – Stars Align Tour: Jeff Beck & Paul Rodgers and Ann Wilson of Heart – New Jersey Performing Arts Center – This separates the men from the boys, and this boy wouldn’t go if you paid me, but you certainly might be man (or woman) enough

Sunday – Playboy Carti – Terminal 5 – His new album is terrific and his song with Nicki Minaj, though it didn’t break pop, was great. A pity about the venue.
