I’ve seen Carrie Underwood twice, once opening for Kenny Chesney and once as part of a Global Citizen gig. My feeling is she is terrible live… so why recommend this MAGAish July 4th, 2018 gig, opening night for Pier 17’s rooftop? I’ll give you three good reasons, one a new venue and two July 4th and three… the new Dan + Shay is excellent.

Monday, Tuesday – Joan Armatrading – City Winery – The soulful 70s star remains completely in tact with a fabulous new album, Not Too Far Away.

Tuesday – Alex Sensation – Circle Line Cruises – Pier 83 – The La Mega 97.9 FM  is the most popular on the Latin American pop scene, so popular he has a successful career recording with the top names in the business, and he should make this Cruise one long dance party.

Wednesday – CEG Presents / 28th Anniversary Celebration The Soft Parade: A Tribute to The Doors – Jim Morrison Memorial Show – If the best tribute band in the world is bassist Will Lee’s Beatle based The Fab Faux, The Soft Parade come in second, riding on Joe Russo’s uncanny performance as Jim Morrison. The Soft Parade have been at it since 1990 and the obvious  has happened, they’ve outgrown the roles… however, it the lights are low,and if you can suspend your disbelief, this is as close you’re gonna get.

Thursday – Maxi Priest – Sony Hall – The great lover’s rock dancehall 80s superstar is well worth your support.

Thursday – KRS-One – S.O.B.’s – second generation rap superstar knows Jesus, teaches the Grandkids of rap how to do it, and has at the very least one huge hit, “Sound Of Da Police”. Though a nine o’clock door threatens a very late night.

Friday – Gary U.S. Bonds – Highline Ballroom – The old school soul singer once beloved by Bruce Springsteen has been doing this for over 60 years. If you’ve never heard “Quarter To Three” or “Star” find out what you’ve been missing.

Saturday – Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons – Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk – You know the songs and while Frankie doesn’t have the voice he once had, he is still an old school pro.

Sunday – Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era Present: 4th Annual STEEZ DAY! with Flatbush ZOMBiES, The Underachievers and more – I went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, this year has a minus, the Sunday, and a plus, the knowledge it will be over by ten.

Sunday – Kinky Friedman – City Winery – The Jewish cowboy is still around.
