Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concerts For The Week Of April 9th, 2018
I’ve seen John Prine twice and was seriously bored both times but every song we’ve heard off the upcoming The Tree of Forgiveness has been excellent and it is his first new songs since, wow, 2005. Also, Friday’s gig at Radio City Music must be seconding as an album release gig and Sturgill SImpson is opening, so it should be worth the trip. It’s just a pity Iris DeMent isn’t with him.
Monday, Tuesday – Eric B. & Rakim – The Technique Tour – Irving Plaza – Jay Z just hailed Rakim as one of the greatest rap poets of all time, and here he returns to his roots with Eric B.
Tuesday – Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Caamp – Brooklyn Steel – I haven’t got deep into the indie album, but I like what I’ve heard.
Wednesday, Thursday – JUSTIN FURSTENFELD OF BLUE OCTOBER AT CITY VINEYARD – I wouldn’t go if you paid be, but Helen Bach swears by him.
Thursday – 5 Seconds of Summer – 5SOS3 Tour – Has a band ever performed career harakiri career suicide this thoroughly before? Meet Australia’s not answer to One Direction.
Thursday – L7, Death Valley Girls – Brooklyn Steel – Welcome back the great metal girls.
Friday – U.S. Girls, Gold Dime – Baby’s Alright – If I could I would open a club round the corner from me, with a lotta seats and an early start… NOT no seats in the middle of fucking Brooklyn so I can’t see perhaps my favorite of those Julien and Lucy type women sing songwriters, U.S. Girls.
Saturday – Frankie Valli – Mohegan Sun – The great fourth season is getting up there and his voice isn’t what it was… his material on the other hand, is exactly what it was.
Saturday – P!NK: Beautiful Trauma World Tour – Prudential Center – The album isn’t much but live she is a thriller.
