Live Through This: Week Of April 17th, 2017
“The 2017 Tribeca Film Festival Opening Night: Live performances by Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind and Fire, Jennifer Hudson and more, following the red carpet World Premiere of Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, a documentary celebrating the legendary music executive and producer”… that’s on Wednesday night at Radio City Music Hall. I will leave my own thoughts on Davis till I’ve seen the movie but I will say I was not crazy about his autobiography, if it was ghost written I’d kill the ghost.
Monday – Kinky Friedman – BB Kings – The multi talented country singer and wit is in town so by all means check him out.
Tuesday – Barry Manilow and Vanessa Williams in Concert for America – The newly minted gay man and the former nude model come together to save the world.
Wednesday – Kristeen Young – Bowery Electric – For years she was what we sat through to get to Morrissey, but then she was fired for catching a cold and now it is the time to see her stand up for herself.
Thursday – Philip Glass Ensemble La Belle Et La Bete Philip Glass In Conversation – Town Hall – The minimalist composer isn’t slowing down at 80 years of age.
Friday – Clean Bandit, Zara Larsson, Starley – Sold Out – Try out the UK dance mavens meets classical in the VIP area if you can afford it…
Saturday – Aimee Mann – Town Hall – I have a ticket for this and I have a ticket for this but I am so disappointed in her last coupla albums that unless she was performing the entire I’m With Stupid, I’d have my doubts.
Saturday – Art Garfunkel – City Winery Winery – I saw him at Carnegie Hall a coupla years ago, but this is much more intimate… not much singing but what there is is world class.
