Marvel Comics Reimagine Your Favorite Rock Album
Marvel Comics are everywhere, in theaters in the street, in your kids’ happy meal, but especially in theaters as every single summer blockbuster seems to be about one of these comic superheroes. They are everywhere and now they are also invading your favorite classics rock albums.
These are variant covers for series of comic book, and if Marvel has already done it in 2015 with a series honoring iconic hip-hop and R&B artists such as Frank Ocean, Beyoncé, Kanye West, and Dr Dre as Doctor Strange, we will soon have the first rock variant covers. Of course, you will recognize Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’, the Clash’s London Calling’, Guns ‘n’ Roses’ ‘Appetite for Destruction’, and Blondie’s ‘Parallel Lines’, mixed with Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, Inhumans, and X-Men Blue/Gold, respectively. The covers were all done by different artists who reimagined the comic book characters with their favorite rock album, and if I am not sure how Joe Strummer would have felt about the Thor treatment, Kurt Cobain may have liked this raccoon-like superhero, after all, he was doodling a lot himself…
These covers are gonna be available in September, it will be a limited affair, and it probably be successful as a lot of record aficionados also enjoy collecting comic books.
Ryan Penagos, Marvel’s vice president and executive editor of digital media, announced it on Twitter. Here is the official announcement:
‘This September, Marvel will start the celebration of the close connection between music fans and comic readers with five Marvel Rock variant covers, straight from some of Marvel’s most acclaimed artists!’
‘A truly unique and limited collection, only five covers will be released, each paying tribute to a classic rock band that defined and expanded the music form.’
