Morrissey’s English fans must feel so depressed right now! The singer has announced he will never play again in the UK! You can read the following statement on his fans’ site True to You:
‘There is absolutely no way that we can generate any interest from record labels in the United Kingdom, therefore the imminent two nights at Hammersmith are likely to be our final ever UK shows. We are obsessively grateful for all interest and loyalty from our audience … throughout 28 years … but without new releases, there is no point in any additional touring. Thank you for so many absolutely incredible times. The pleasure and privilege is mine … ‘
It’s very polite and respectful but it is the end of an era. After being dropped by labels Capitol and Harvest last year, shortly after the release of ‘World Peace Is None Of Your Business’, he felt massively let down by the UK label marketing & promotion, and lost all hope in humanity,… not that he had some to begin with!
Let’s hope this only applies to England, where he will perform two shows next week, because he can’t give up on places where he is huge, places like Los Angeles and about everywhere in South America, right? Doesn’t he already live more or less in LA? Anyway, he said it perfectly more than 20 years ago, ‘We look to Los Angeles for the language we use/London is dead, London is dead, London is dead’… nothing new there.
So if you are in London, enjoy your last Morrissey show, or say you are working on convincing the whole population to give up on fox hunting and to become vegetarian, that would certainly make Morrissey to review his decision.
