The 2013 Replacements reunion was the ultimate incentive for Twin Citians to journey seven hours to Chicago’s Riot Fest.
The September 16-18 music fest at Douglas Park — dubbed “the Warped Tour for people with mortgages” by writer Nathan Rabin — will offer plenty of pull factors in 2016. Among the headliners: reunited, Glenn Danzig-led horror-punk pioneers Misfits, prickly/adored Morrissey singer Mo and cult-loved weirdos Ween.
But let’s talk about the heavy Minnesota presence. We’ve got the Hold Steady (technically a Brooklyn band, but whatever) reuniting with heyday keyboardist Franz Nicolay to play their killer 2006 album, Boys & Girls in America, in entirety. And that’s not all, folks: Motion City Soundtrack performing their final show ever, plus Bob Mould, Hippo Campus, and Off With Their Heads.

Other acts include Social Distortion playing White Light, White Heat, White Trash, Rob Zombie playing White Zombie’s Astro-Creep: 2000, Nas, Deftones, Refused, Brand New, Death Cab For Cutie, Death Grips, Descendents, the Specials, NOFX, Jimmy Eat World, Bad Religion, Thursday, the Anniversary, Meat Puppets, GZA, Method Man and Red Man, GWAR, Joey Bada$$, Andrew W.K., Fucked Up, Diarrhea Planet, Denzel Curry … and it just keeps going.

Three-day passes — $169.98 general admission; $299.98 VIP — are available now. Riot Fest Denver goes down September 2-4 with a similar lineup. See both lineup posters below.
