Brooklynvegan recently posted a new Screaming Females’ song that the band performed live on WFMU. The New Brunswick group has finished recording their 5th LP ‘Ignore The Ignorant’, at Electrical Audio in Chicago with Nirvana producer and Shellac frontman Steve Albini, and the album should be out in April.
The song, which does not seem to have a title, showcases Marissa Paternoster’s loud and bold howl over shredding guitars and quite a lot of distortion. The track breaks down into deconstruction and a guitar solo midsong and, from there, takes another direction for a few seconds before going back to where it started with more assaulting guitars. Albini hasn’t really polished anything in their raw sound, and catchy riffs battle with Marissa’s tone, which ranges from aggressive-in-your-face to shaky-troubling.
It is not too different from what they have been doing but rather mild-tempered compared to the fury you are able to witness at one of their live shows. Capturing their frenzied and unleashed sound on record is still something they have to accomplish!
