Notorious B.I.G. "Juicy" Revisted
What I don't have is the proper timeline. I can't really identify the "Ol' G's" as well as I could, simply because as rap evolved I was elsewhere. This wasn't my scene and I was pretty much uninterested.
In the past couple years I have become more interested in music I otherwise would have shunned it. I am more receptive simply because I want to be.
In two years I have become a huge fan of Lil Wayne, Kanye, and Jay Z. The big guys, the well knowns. For every song I like of their there are 200 more than I would like more if I heard it.
So what's up with Notorious B.I.G.? I know he's legend, I know he died young- that's it. Til I was introduced to the song "Juicy" a story of the rise of a boy who went from nothing to wealth. Fantastic lines and laughable ones flowing in story telling form.
Boasting rap is one thing, but this is really more heartfelt than flashing green. A story of dreams and pride.
"I made the change from a common thief /To up close and personal with Robin Leach" Is a perfect statement for what happens when fame finally arrives. Most rappers can paint poverty stories music gets them out of the cycle.
There is pride "Birthdays was the worst days/Now we sip champagne when we thirst-ay" but there is more humility "You know very well who you are/Don't let em hold you down, reach for the stars"
I look forward to learning more. I wont lie some of this shit does nothing but crack me up. I have heard some rap that is virtually incoherent and trying so hard its embarrassing.
Tell me a story, make sense and gimme a bad ass beat.
