For fans around the world, the wait is over, the new Queens of The Stone Age album is almost there – actually you will have to wait till August 25th to get it. However, the band has already released a new song ‘The Way You Used To Do’ and announced at the same time a tour featuring a few festival dates.

The big news is that ‘Villains is produced by renown DJ/producer of recent Lady Gaga fame Mark Ronson, and a few fans got a bit worried about the rest for this precise reason, is he a pop guy, not a rock guy? But listening to the new song should reassure them, because it is a very QOTSA track, there’s no doubt in my mind. Come on, Ronson also produced Amy Whinehouse’s ‘Back to Black’, Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox’, and he can go from Adele to the Black Lips, he knows about blues and soul, plus even Sir Paul McCartney trusted him for his ‘New’ album.

So this new ‘The Way You Used To Do’ song sounds great, it has QOTSA signature badass guitars, Joshua Homme’s dynamite-sexy falsetto, and it swings like an oldies with a driving force coming straight from their Era Vulgaris! Straight to the basics? In any case, it should be an instant crush if you like QOTSA infectious guitars, even a dance crush, because nobody will sit down during this one. Lyrics-wise, it’s a hot number, a burning teenage crush, ‘When I first met her she was seventeen/Seventeen/Jump like an arsonist to a perfect match/Burned alive’… oh la la… should I also say that Homme sings a ‘c’est la vie’ before ‘So lay your hands across my beating heart, love’.

Of course this is just a first listen, and we’ll see what they have in store for the other 8 songs. Meanwhile the cover art couldn’t be more direct, a devil/villain character masking Joshua’s eyes, but he was quite clear about the meaning of the album, this is not about politics:

‘The title Villains isn’t a political statement,’ he explained in a statement. ‘It has nothing to do with Trump or any of that shit. It’s simply 1) a word that looks fantastic and 2) a comment on the three versions of every scenario: yours, mine and what actually happened…. Everyone needs someone or something to rail against—their villain—same as it ever was. You can’t control that. The only thing you can really control is when you let go.’

Here is the tracklist of Villains:
01 Feet Don’t Fail Me
02 The Way You Used to Do
03 Domesticated Animals
04 Fortress
05 Head Like a Haunted House
06 Un-Reborn Again
07 Hideaway
08 The Evil Has Landed
09 Villains of Circumstance

And if you want to see them live, they have announced dates around the world. But since they are such a hot ticket these days, you have 2 options to get the presale code for North America: You can pre-order Villains from Matador or QOTSA & get first dibs on tickets to the North American Tour, or just sign up as a verified fan and get second dibs on tickets to the North American Tour. But hurry up, you only have till Saturday to do it!
