Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" Video Is Too Much
So I’m pretty sure there’s not one lady who doesn’t get totally fangirly when she hears Robin Thicke’s voice. That’s the whole reason he’s famous, after all- essentially he’s a chick magnet.
He released a new song called “Blurred Lines” that’s made its way onto charts, party playlists, and even I find myself humming it from time to time. It’s a brilliantly catchy tune and considering that’s what Thicke is all about, he did a damn good job.
But something has to be said about the music video. And I’m not talkin’ the one that they’re allowed to show clips from and that’s family friendly. Nooooo.
The unrated version of the music video was appalling. First, Fall Out Boy’s “Young Volcanoes” vid has a topless woman for less than five seconds at the end of it, and people found that shocking. Boy would they be speechless if they watched “Blurred Lines”.
Now, I’m all for art and doin’ whatever ya gotta do to make the work you want. And, everyone should respect artists’ choices because it is an intensely personal thing to share work at all. However, when all the video is is boobs, it’s uncomfortable and just plain weird.
I couldn’t watch past about thirty seconds before I felt disgusted. I did a little bit of research, and, haha surprise, Thicke is married. He said the video was “just work” but when surrounded by topless women and oogling at them, where do you draw the line?
The entire ordeal made me feel grossed out and awkward. I know that there’s the age restriction, but so many people lie on their accounts. To make a video like that so easily accessible is just..weird.
Needless to say, I can no longer think of this catchy-dance song the same way again. What the hell, Thicke?!
