When a great like Sergio Mendes does not win an award its noteworthy. A semi legend, you'd think the world is his, but not this year.
This year the Oscar for Best Original Song went to…'Man or Muppet' from The Muppets movie. Pretty much the best news from the Oscars. If you recall we were so excited to see the film and although it was not an epic success it had just enough retro cuteness to win me over (which is no easy achievement)
Although, we are not fans of awards shows there are times like this when its at least interesting. Music in film is something Iman will always write up. He is at the theater often and is able to identify track tunes well. A films soundtrack can enhance (or destroy) an entire mood. The Muppet movie had just enough old time upbeat tunes to be endearing and not annoying, The title track most catchy and well deserving (if not surprising) to win the Oscar.
Others nominated for best score were John Williams for 'The Adventures of Tintin', Howard Shore for 'Hugo', Alberto Iglesias for 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' and John Williams for 'War Horse'. The winner, just fo a change, was "The Artist" proviing you can be an over 60 year old man and wrong all the time (Like Bon Seger's fat and ugly fans)
